Are you excited for all the vintagey goodness on it's way? I am! To kick us off a bit, I made a simple dress using some vintage curtains I got at a swap at church. So they cost me free thirty free. (har har, I know) That hairpiece is a bit ridiculously huge and floppy, I know, but I figured I should go all out for this fun little photo shoot. Which … [Read more...]
Vintage pattern with modern fabric
I love to sew vintage styles with modern fabric-the fresh colors and patterns update a dated pattern instantly! Wouldn't you agree? I wish I'd done that waistband in a different fabric but nothing matched that red. I mean, nothing. That's why I stuck some green buttons on it! Sadie wasn't a big fan of this dress-so I don't know if it will get worn … [Read more...]
KCWC-little tie top
So I made this #fast and #easy (Can I tell you a secret? I may or may not know what the whole hashtag thing is all about....heavy on the may not) little top for Sadie from a thrifted tee. I love using those-it's already hemmed so it makes it so fast to refashion into a new top. I added a little tie at the collar-it turned out pretty cute I think! … [Read more...]
KCWC-pretty peasant top
Made with the Sweet Dress pattern and fabric from the Go Fly a Kite line (Cream Ice Cream), from Ribbon Retreat.I made a wide casing around the neck and put in a few button holes for the bias tape to loop through. Once I had it arranged I tacked it down through the casing in the back so it wouldn't slip out.tada! (love this fabric!) No pictures of … [Read more...]
Pleat Week guest post: pleated ombre skirt
I feel like such a rebel! Posting about pleats during Ruffle-mania...lol! But when Kate asks for pleats-you give her pleats. ;) I saw a similar dress once and I've always wanted to try big pleats, with 2 different fabrics-so this was a good project to knock a few things off my sewing to do list. Ruffles are represented in her shirt, lol!I … [Read more...]
the Nora dress
OK so I lamed out and couldn't think of a "name" for Sadie's Easter dress, but Charlotte-well I just went with her middle name. Easy peasy. See below for the tutorial! You'll need:1-2 yards fabric (depending on the size of course)threadbuttons So first off I drew a basic bodice pattern by tracing a tee folded in half. Then I drew a square neck and … [Read more...]
ruffled wrap dress tutorial
This dress is definitely a mash up of a few tutorials-my Rachel wrap shirt tutorial , the Ric Rac dress tutorial, plus the skirt from the Shabby Apple knock off dress. So I've combined them all (mostly) into one big happy family. (not that they're mostly happy, just most of it's here in this post...I will refer you to another tute one or … [Read more...]
the Peaches and Cream dress tutorial
Ok. The lamest blogger award goes to.....ME. I asked for your help naming this dress over on facebook awhile ago...(like, I'm embarrassed to check how long)...and I'm just now posting it. Other things got in the way, not to mention some procrastination on writing the tutorial, so anyways. Enough excuses...here it is! The Peaches and Cream … [Read more...]
the Madison dress
So I gotta share a bit of craziness we had last night with you guys real quick and then we'll get onto the sewing stuff! So last night the girls are literally on their way to their beds, and Charlotte fell (while getting "hugged" by Sadie...she gives enthusiastic hugs to her sister) into the corner of the wall and split her forehead open on the … [Read more...]
the Elinor top tutorial
Since we read Sense and Sensibility this month for book club, I decided to name this simple little top after one of the characters. The curved ruffle makes a really interesting shape, which I love. Here's how I made it! See below for the tutorial! You'll need: a tee to trace fabric (I used a yard for size 3T) matching thread hook and … [Read more...]
