wee little violin bag

I made Sadie a little bag for her “violin” the other day. She’s starting with some “lessons” with my mom this week, and she’s so excited! (My sibs and I all played the violin-Suzuki method-at one point in our “youth”*)

*enough quotations, I know! I am such a nerd.

No tutorial for this one, because I doubt anyone else has need for a fake violin bag. ๐Ÿ˜‰

It zips open to reveal…her violin!

It’s (obviously) not a real violin, but a pretty darn awesome-looking stand in! My talented Dad made it for her for her birthday. She is in love with it.

Check out some other Dad projects below. (which I helped out on both….just so’s you know. I will take about 5% of the credit)

Back to the bag. It has a little pocket on the front for various small violin things…or tiny princess dolls, which it is more likely to carry. Or my cough drops. She likes carrying those around for me. ???

It also has a strap to sling it over her shoulder with.

It also has a side pocket for her (real) bow!

I used this fabric from my sponsor, SkyeReve Fabrics, and made my own custom piping! (tutorial coming)ย
Zipper from my pal Katie’s store.(she used to have vintage zipper bundles in her store..muwahaha I must have taken the last ones….sorry. but not really)
I am so happy with how this little bag turned out! I only wish I’d put the zipper in not upside down. Other than that, it came out just how I pictured.

  2. Hee hee, cute!

  3. SO. Cute!

Seriously Jess, this is so adorable. I know nothing about the violin, but seeing this tiny little bag makes me want to make one just like it anyway! ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Very very cute!!!

  5. So cute!! We’re Suzuki fans in our house (unfortunately, I can’t make a cute piano bag!)

  6. Jess, you are uber-talented!

  7. This is so darn cute!! Great work

  8. Cutest thing ever! I also really like the wooden violin. Now we need some pictures of Sadie playing. ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. Love the violin bag! How cute is her faux violin, too! Any chance your Dad would make another pair of scissors to sell to me? I remember your original post about them, and I would love to have a pair. ๐Ÿ˜‰ kbunywabit at hotmail dot com

  10. For reasons unknown, your “youth” is the thing that’s sticking in my brain, rolling around like socks in the dryer. I think in the next blog post I may just ponder the word ‘the’ while I’m dwelling on the important things. That is the cutest non-violin I have ever seen.

    Hi Jess,

Strange as it may sound, I would actually love a tutorial on how to make this, in a size that would fit a real violin ๐Ÿ™‚

I am working on a project for making violin bags for folk musicians here in Denmark.

So if you have spare time on your hands, I would love some instructions.

  12. I LOVE this, Jess, and am going to attempt to make one, myself! So if you’re up for doing a tutorial, I, too, would be grateful! I think I’ll make mine big enough to have my seven-year-old’s (real) violin fit while packed inside its case. I’m hoping that then, the outer pocket will be big enough to hold her music book. I’m totally using yours for inspiration, though, tutorial or not! Thanks for sharing this adorable bag!
