the Junebug dress

I never know how to start these posts off.

....to your left, we have a new dress! No, your other left.

...sooo my scissors got away from me, and I made another dress (or 2, or 39)....

....here's a new dress that we found wandering the streets and adopted....

you see?

so...I give up.
I made a new dress. I named it the Junebug dress for no other reason besides I made it in June. (I say that counts as a legit naming technique. This month's dress will be the Julyfly dress. er...nope. never mind.)

It buttons up in the front, a really cute and quirky detail. (so quirky that it had Sadie crying in frustration when she tried to take it off. So, might be smart to help your kiddos dress in this one if they frustrate easily)

It also boasts some cute puff sleeves and an A-line gathered skirt. (it also boasts a wide hem, but I told it to stop being so boastful and pipe down)

I love the slight sailory-vintage feel it has.

The fabric is by Anna Griffin, but of course I chopped off and now can't find the selvage that has the name of the fabric line on it. I got it ages ago, if that helps. Just call me the handy helper.

Anyways...I'm going to be posting a tutorial and 2/3T pattern for this soon! (I'll do my best to show you how to make your own pattern if you have a different size to sew for) Maybe I'll call that the newest sew along, since I didn't really do one for June.

Not sure I did for May either...*cough* slacker *cough*

Funny story. I actually took many, MANY pics of Sadie in this dress outside near pretty grass, trees, and nature stuff...but she refused to look normal. So, you get our boring playroom wall again. It really showcases the dress...right? right...

Jess, as always, I love it. I'm so glad it boasts all those great features. I hope I can make one, in the fall. My hubby would kill me if I made another dress right now.

Beautiful! I love it! I've never made a button hole... maybe this will convince me to try!

"Hi, my name is Jess and I am a sewing machine. Well, I have a sewing machine. But also, I am one."
I love the button detail! I want it on my clothes! I would probably cry too, though. I get frustrated over getting dressed. I wish I was joking but actually I have this Victoria's Secret smooth-you-out type corset and I nearly cry in frustration every time I put it on. But actually that's because it has a million hook and eye thingers to do it up and I can't do it myself and I'm too prideful to ask my hubby for help. Since it is just the teeny tiniest bit stretchy, if I first do it up then I can get it over my head to put it on, but not without having a very claustrophobic minute there where I'm pretty sure I'm going to die. Or even worse, have to call for help. And I would never, ever hear the end of that one.

Oh! I love it! I can't wait for the tute/pattern!

I must say you have her well trained. When I saw her in nursery the first thing she said to me was, "Mommy my dress." "Mommy made your dress?" "Yeah." And then she walked away. haha!

I am laughing. your posts are so conversational---feel like I'm having my morning coffee with a friend. Cant wait to try this one.

Love the dress and the way the playroom wall showcases it! The buttons and sleeves and shape of the dress are so fun! :) One of these times you could start off a dress post with a funny thing your kids said/did and/or something totally unrelated and random. ;)

I'm with Laura, I want this button detail on my clothes!! This is absolutely gorgeous. If I EVER get any good at sewing I will definitely have a go at making one for my daughter! Oh and since she's 2 in November I reckon I might be able to make it for her next summer if I try really hard! ;)

it's so pretty! Love the buttons :) but I hate that somebody is spamming in the comments!

Crafts For Lily said...

Absolutely adorable! I think it would make a fun dress for a sew-a-long because it lends itself to so many looks depending on fabric/button choice! I'd participate (I already have my fabric idea in mind!).

As for the spammer, I know some people don't like it, but adding the verification requirement might keep those pesks away.

Carolyn said...

That button detail is to die for (and apparently I'm not the only one who feels this way because man, did it take me a long time to scroll down through the comments to leave my own :)

This is so cute! I love the buttons and really everything about this dress.
