family tree wall art

tada! this was my project on One Month to Win It this week! Sorry the pics weren’t fantastical…we’ve had nothing but cloudiness and rain here so I did my best. I loove how this project turned out!
and this project won this week! (barely)…I couldn’t believe that! wow! thanks everybody!
So, when I first heard the theme this week would be Spring Cleaning, I really wanted to take something in our house that I wouldn’t normally use, and incorporate it into a project. So I headed to our garage rather than my craft room. (this is not normal for me) I found a scrap piece of plywood and decided to do some wall art with it!
It is basically the poor man’s version of this art piece. ;} Their version is $40, and mine was free thirty free.
I first made a template with some paper for the branch shapes-working with some frames I grabbed from around the house. Then I cut them from the wood, sanded and painted (frames as well), and hung them up with some holes drilled in the back.
I printed out some OLD family photos (on simple card stock) to fill in the picture frames for now-and cut the FAMILY out of some vinyl with my Silhouette. It is the perfect large scale piece for my living room wall!
Now to fill it with some new family photos…
I can’t wait for next week!

  18. I have seen this sort of thing done before and thought “I definitely want to do that one day…” The one I saw had finer branches and a lot more photos – but the beauty of this is that your tree can grow with more photos being hung in time. Well done!

  19. I love your family tree art! What an awesome idea!

I really enjoy your blog. I check it our regularly. You are an inspiration, and you make me want to sew more!

    If I win, I’d probably pick pocket #2, but #17 is a close 2nd.

    Have a great day!

THEN…I saw yours and fell in LOVE TWICE!!!! Hunny, you are amazing and I am totally going to copy you!!! You are amazing!!! I too, would have cried if you didn’t make it to the next round! Cheering you on from AZ!

  27. I saw this and loved it! I would have posted it, but it looks like your cut out wood and that is hard for a lot of people to do (like me). Did you use a jigsaw? Great job!
