liberty floral and striped geranium dress

Little Ava was due for a new church dress, and I was feeling some pattern mixing coming on!

Iย  grabbed this striped shirting (from Joann’s-which I’ve used a few times! versatile!), and paired it with some delicate floral liberty.

Which I’ve been hoarding for….awhile, let’s just say.

I decided to not let it waste away on the shelf, and I’m so glad I did, because I LOVE this little dress.

I also thought it was about time for another Geranium dress, so I printed off a new size and got to work!

It’s a quick sew especially with the cap sleeves!

I made a 2T this time and gave it a wide hem to eat up some of the length of the skirt, since it was a little long for her, and also weigh down the bottom a little since the fabric is so lightweight.

I added the little notch to the front for a little bit of interest.

the buttons are from Target of all places!

I found these awesome metal buttons in the scrapbooking section a few years ago and grabbed two packs.

These aren’t all matching, the top and bottom match but the middle is smaller…I kinda like it that way though!!

Ava was giving me the cutest little faces during this shoot!

She is such a feisty little punk sometimes.

She’ll be the one giving us grey hairs, guaranteed.

You can see the print closer here-love how the stripes pick up the little grey stems and such in the floral!

*maybe if I sneak out of the shot all casual-like she won’t notice.

  7. oh the cuteness! Love it. And stripes with floral are always a win:)

  8. What an adorable child! I love the floral you used…. if only it wasn’t so much out of my budget! HOW is Ava almost two? That just can’t be happening!

  9. LOVE! She looks so much like Sadie in the second to last picture.

  10. It’s EXCELLENT! Love a good Geranium, love stripes, love Liberty, and Ava is the cutest model ever. Great job. ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. The dress and especially your daughter are both darling! I also have used the geranium pattern to make dresses for both my granddaughters. As with most sewing, you can get such a different look with different fabric and a couple of little changes. I do have a question for you re: liberty fabric… I always admire it and would love to sew with it, but how does it wash? My dear daughter-in-law has no time (or interest) in ironing and I don’t blame her! So, do you find yourself having to iron the liberty fabric once it is made into a garment?

  12. This is a great combo! And she is the cutest ever.

  13. Oh my heavens how adorable!! And the dress ain’t too shabby either. ๐Ÿ˜› But those shoes! Love it!!!!!!!

  14. I love the dress! And your little princess is adorable ๐Ÿ™‚
