Charlotte dress Part 2: bodice

So! Time to put together the bodice!

Printable version

See more after the jump!

Here are the pieces you should have for your bodice and sleeves: 2 cut on the fold (one lining, one main fabric, and 4 cut for the back. (two lining, two main fabric.)

Also two sleeve pieces cut on the fold.

First, place your lining and main fabric back and front pieces right sides together, and sew together at the shoulder seams. (I usually use a 3/8″ seam.)

Press open the seams on both pieces.

Then lay the two bodice pieces right sides together like so, and pin around the neck.

Sew around the neckline and clip the curves like so.

Turn right side out and press around the neckline with your iron.

Then baste around the arm holes to keep the lining and main fabric together.  Congrats! You just (almost) finished your bodice!
Tomorrow: sleeves! You’ll need your child’s arm measurement. (around their bicep where the sleeve will be) Just wanted to let you know today!
….So when you’re sewing during naps tomorrow you’re not cursing at me under your breath cause you needed that darn measurement.

  1. Very nice job Jess!

  2. Great! I can’t wait to get home from work and sew this. Will you post the size you are using for your sleeves tomorrow for those of us who don’t have babies @ home?

  3. I made my bodice 12 months, but my daughter isn’t quite there yet. I think she will be by Easter. Any tips on how much length to add to her arm measurement?
