the Libby top

So. Wanna hear about how I named this top? In my head, I started calling it the Bibby top, since it kind of has a bib shape on it. Then of course I rhymed it with Libby. So it’s the Bibby Libby top. Or just the Libby top, since I should probably try to maintain some sense of normalcy and sanity around here. (BWAH!)

And yes, I know that the bottom button should be a little higher. It bugs me, but not as much as it would bug me to take apart this shirt. I made it from some of the fabric I got from this estate sale.
The pieces I had were hard to work with, hence this design!

It has a fun bib/scoop/thingy on the front, which is gathered below that, and buttons up the front. Also has some slightly poofy gathered sleeves.

I adore this fabric, and this top is slightly big on Sadie, so yay for her wearing it longer!

Sooo….I’m officially announcing this month’s sew-along! It’s this shirt. big surprise!
Supply list below!
You’ll need:
fabric (amount depends on the size of your child. I probably used less than a yard total for a 3T size.)
coordinating fabric for bib-a fat quarter would be enough for most sizes
thread
buttons
1/8″ elastic
Edit:  I’ll show you how to make the pattern you’ll need. Don’t worry, it’s an easy one!
The sew-along will start and run Sept 19-22!
(Edit: this will be a three day sew-along, so it will only run Sept 19-21!)
Are you in?

  1. Ugh, now I not only wish that the rest of my house was unpacked enough that I felt safe unpacking my sewing machine, but I’m missing fall weather as well!! You’re such a tease, Jess. And a motivator. Now if only you could convince this locale to reach temperatures below 80 at any point in the year….
