Coral+zebras+ b&w=a winner. amiright?
Let’s start with my inspiration-you probably have seen this adorable dress by the talented Emma&Mona around blogland……I instinctively go to pin it every time I see it in my Pinterest feed. ha!
(I would give almost anything to get some of that mustard zebra fabric tho)
So when I came across this organic poplin from The Village Haberdashery, it climbed into my cart, I blanched at the shipping, but pressed the order button anyhow, and it was on it’s way to my house!
Luckily it’s really wide fabric and I have enough for at least another dress or a few skirts!
I knew I wanted to create my own version of that dress, so I also hunted down some black and white piping to finish it off!
I used our 5&10 Designs VOL 1 basic dress size 6, with the peter pan collar added. I didn’t cut the collar pieces on the fold, and instead rounded the fold edge to match the front.
It matched up juuuust right in the back, and I used some small black metal buttons up the back-different from the inspiration dress, because…well I didn’t look at it before I started sewing it up-was going by memory lol!
I do like the buttons in front like she did, but in back are just fine for me too ๐
I added our cap sleeves in and I love how easy they are to add but so adorable!
AND haha…can you see how a few of the zebra heads on the bodice match up with the bodies on the skirt!? lol! total coincidence.
I mean…I meant to do that. ๐
I love how soft the organic poplin is, and it was a DREAM to sew with. I am definitely happy with this one!
