trick or treat bag tutorial

Need a trick or treat bag to match your child’s costume? I whipped this one out in no time-it’s easy, cheap (I spent about $2 on supplies), and you can easily customize it to your child’s costume! I made mine look like Flounder from the Little Mermaid movie, since Sadie is going to be Ariel.
Now that I think about it, it kind of looks like I skinned him to make this bag…
Moving on! (I’m not a fish killer-promise!)Click below for more!

You’ll need:
about 1/2 yard of felt, plus any extra for embellishing.
thread, etc sewing stuff
So you’ll need to find a round thingy bob to use as your shape for the bottom. My circle was about 8 1/4″ in diameter, so I’ll give my measurements for that. You will need to adjust if your circle is larger or smaller. I found that when I measured around the circle (mine was 25″, and then deducted 1.5″), it fit pretty well. I’m not the greatest at math, sooo….anyways.
Cut out two circles.
Two large pieces 23.5″x8″
two pieces 17″x2″
Do your embellishing now-I cut out the Flounder-ish stripes and sewed them on.
Then, right sides together, fold your big piece and sew down the side with a 1/4″ seam.
Pin one of the circles inside the tube you just made. like so.
Sew around the circle with 1/4″ seam.
Repeat with the other large piece and circle.
Place your lining inside your outside piece, wrong sides together.
Now let’s pay attention to the straps-stack the two strips on top of each other, and sew 4 lines down the straps lengthwise.
like so!
Back to the bag…you’re going to fold over the lining like so…
and sew that over the front!
I didn’t pin it, I just folded it over as I sewed.
Sew on your strap, back stitching for extra strength.
Tada! Finished bag! And the great thing is-if they destroy it on Halloween-you’ll only have wasted about $2 and an hour or so.
At least that’s what I’ll tell myself when Sadie trashes it. haha.
Here she goes, getting a head start. cute, no? (I think the shells are too far apart, I think I’ll try and fix that before Halloween-it’s buggin’!)
I’m over on the SEI Lifestyle blog today with some bunting fun! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed guest posting over there! ๐Ÿ˜€
