5 and 10 Designs-Look No. 5

First on my list of dresses to sew up from our 5 and 10 Designs e-book was Look No.5, designed by the fantastic Delia. (see the bottom of this post for a coupon code for 15% off the e-book!)

I love the curved color-blocking on the sides-such a fun design element, right? It was also the perfect opportunity to practice some pattern mixing-and I love how it came out! So does Sadie, so that’s what matters. (pink…well, peach…was involved, so win-win) The fabrics I used were Leah Duncan Oasis Rosa, and Michael Miller Les Amis in Faux Bois Stripe Peach.

They coordinated so well! I have a little bit of each left over so I’m thinkin maybe Ava needs a new dress soon. That doesn’t happen often for me (using the same fabrics for another project) so that’s just how much I love this combo!

you can see the faux bois design  a little better in this pic. swoony swoon swoon.

I didn’t really love the clear coral buttons at first, I initially wanted to use navy buttons…but it’s what I had in my stash. They have totally won me over though! They lend an airy, whimsical quality to this fun modern dress. 🙂

Delia did a fantastic job explaining how to make the pattern and put together the dress-it came together easily! I do wish I had made a size smaller-my teensy girl is still the size of a 2 year old in the chest, but it’ll fit longer, right? I added an inch to the skirt length,  and the cap sleeve option (which is included in the e-book!) because they are so darn easy and cute! (and make any dress instantly modest) I also left off the front seam pockets from her original design, mostly to save time. Sadie really wanted to wear it for church today!

If you haven’t gotten your copy of the 5 and 10 Designs e-book, it’s on sale now-15% off!

Use the coupon code LaborDay at checkout to receive the discount.

The code is good til Monday at midnight so what are you waiting for? 😀
