sprucing up

Our master room has been in desperate need of some sprucing up. It still needs some window treatments (and better furniture) but those will happen someday....In the mean time, I found this cute duvet cover at Home Goods and made some pillows and wall art to try and make it look like adults live here.

I love the monograms I made for our "sides" of the bed. Classic. I used this tutorial for them.

I wish there were another lamp on Rory's side-but he just wouldn't use it. bugs me a little though...

I made our headboard last year as my birthday present to myself.

pillow breakdown:

The yellow pillow I made using this tutorial. (only I didn't use knit, just some quilting cotton)

The white one was a simple envelope style pillow with a wonky rose thingy bob of my own design. (although I probably shouldn't claim that, haha) I made it with some awesome nubby fabric I got over a year ago. Finally used it! hurrah!

The Love pillow was a blatant copy inspired by this pillow on Etsy. I pretty much LOVE it. (made with some suiting fabric-a remnant of course!)

This is what our room used to look like...

and before that....

 and before that....

yikes! you get the picture. Progressively worse as we go farther back. At least it's not the other way around. ;)

aaand...just so I don't leave you with that horrifying picture seared into your brain: here's another of the pillows.

Ahh. much better.

oooh, I love it. Someday I'll make my room all pretty... We just finished our nursery and that leaves just the bathroom and our bedroom to be done (and the laundryroom and downstairs bath, but those rooms arent even drywalled yet, lol) ... when we showed our three year old she was like, "Now you need to make YOUR room pretty mommy!" Uh, yeah, in a while... mommy and daddy need a break after doing like 75% of our house over in 2010... Sooo jealous of this beautiful space though! If I wasn't about to pop (due today) this post would have me hauling out furniture and in paint rollers right now!

Looks beautiful, Jess. I love the brown. Our bedroom is seriously neglected, too... probably because it's the only room in the house that no one ever sees. Love what you've done.

After seeing that last "before" (the empty room) I have to ask this: What possesses people to paint AROUND their furniture, instead of moving it out of the way and painting the entire wall? I'm guessing it wasn't you who did that, but I've always wondered. And if it was you, please don't be offended. I'm honestly curious.

More to the point, your bedroom looks great! I know what you mean about finally feeling like it's a room for two grown-ups. It's taken us nearly 8 years of marriage to have a "grown-up" bedroom, and it's SO good to finally have a room I love. Why do we wait so long, I wonder.

I love it! Great job. I'm in the process of some similar sprucing up. I do actually like that you don't have two lamps. A little bit of asymmetry is nice!

Oh my! I love those pillows! I am a huge pillow person. :)
I also love the initials over your nightstands. That is very clever. :)

Looks great! I like the pillows you made and the color scheme.

Ours seriously needs a makeover too but I keep bumping it down the budget ladder since I can't deny that everything is still perfectly functional.

They are great and really do add to the room. Our bedroom is in dire need of resuscitation (hmm that would indicate that at some point it looked great which it has never-even empty). Unfortunately, I've been married 31yrs and still haven't gotten around to giving us a nice room. A nice STORAGE room though we do have.
I want to start with a headboard so will be checking your's out and I'm making pillows for my nieces so will be checking out the tutorials for that.

LOVE IT. And I am more than a little jealous that your room looks like that. Mine is a hopeless modgepodge of junk that is the holding ground for all the crud in the house. I know you feel sorry for me now!

You have inspired me!!!
