sadie shirt sew-along info

I am so excited to announce my first sew along tutorial! I am going to be posting step by step instructions on how to make this cute shirt:
I’ll show you how to make your own pattern-and how to construct the placket, ruffle, button closure in back, collar, and sleeves. Does that sound like a lot? It’s not bad, I promise! That’s why I’m breaking it up into manageable, bite-size pieces. ;D
Starting October 18 (next week!), and running through the 22nd-each day will have a post with a tutorial for a new part of the shirt-and by Friday-you should have a completed shirt!
Day 1: Make the pattern and cut out pieces
Day 2: Bodice and placket
Day 3: Button closure
Day 4: Sleeves
Day 5: Hem, collar and buttons.
Supply List:
1/2 yrd-1 yard of fabric, depending on your child’s size (a nice lightweight fabric works well)
1/4-1/2 yd or so of coordinating fabric for ruffle and collar
small piece of fabric for placket
1/8″ elastic (a couple of inches)
3 buttons for front and 1 for back closure
Sewing stuff (machine, thread, iron, pins, seam ripper-just-in-case, rotary cutter, scissors, bias tape maker if you have one)
a loose(r) fitting shirt in your child’s size
wrapping or tracing paper
So! If you’re down for some sewin’ every day next week and want to make a (super duper cute) shirt, then sign on up! Just leave a comment here on this post if you want to be a part of this sew-along. If you’re shy, that’s ok…you are more than welcome to sew along silently! Spread the word amongst your bloggy friends too! I would love to showcase the shirts you make on my blog ๐Ÿ˜€

  5. I’m really excited about this, but I don’t have a little girl to make one for. Maybe I’ll just have to clothe one from the street.

  11. HOORAY! Okay, maybe I’m a little overly excited. But I can’t help it. ๐Ÿ™‚ And I’m super glad that this is going to be a week-long, bite-size thing instead of an overwhelming tutorial. And you even let me know ahead of time what I need to have on hand. Yay! I really am so excited.

Also, I have a couple of questions about this (that may pertain to just me):

    1. I’ll be sewing this for my (very) petite one year old. She still fits in anything from 3-6 to 12-18 month clothes. Anyway, do you think 1/2 yard of the main fabric will be enough for a shirt for yer?

    2. All I have on hand is 1/4″ elastic. Do you think this will work okay or should I get some 1/8″ elastic?

Okay, that’s all. I’m off to add your little sew along button to my side bar! ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. Oh, and, P.S. I like the name you picked for the shirt. ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. Hooray! I’m excited. I’ll be a day late and hopefully not more than two days. . . . Great name for the shirt. ๐Ÿ™‚

Also loving all of your other posts on SEI lifestyle.
