barbie clothes!

Once Sadie got her first Barbies® for her second birthday this past month…I knew that I was in for it. It being Barbie® clothes! I’d been a little intimidated by them-they’re so tiny. Of course, my sister and I had always made the most fashionable clothes (not) when we were younger with scraps tied around our dolls…but for Sadie’s dolls I had something a little more fun in mind. 😉

Plus, I’m a sewer (sewist? sewee?) so I knew a wardrobe had to be made! Some of these are made from my own design-some I used Simplicity 5785 for. Like, the grey and orange dress, the pants, and the blue pleated skirt. The rest I made up. (yes, you can expect some tutorials! In fact-all week long-it’s Barbie® clothes week!)
I love the blue skirt-one of my favs-and it came together really quickly!
had to use those skirt scraps somehow…
I made this skirt out of some wee scraps, and embellished her shirt with a little scrap flower. I love using my tiny adorable scraps up!

Tune in tomorrow for the first tutorial!

  1. These are soooo cute! I can’t wait for the tut.

  2. Awesome…’nuff said. Okay REALLY awesome.

  3. Wow, Sadie’s barbie is better dressed than me. Is that a liberty print in the middle? Please say no. I couldn’t stand it if Barbie had a liberty print dress before me.

  4. You are so talented! I’ve been a lurker for quite some time – love your sewing and craftiness! Your daughters are so cute! Looking forward to your barbie clothes tutorials! I’ve tried sewing blythe clothes and they were hard because of the small size…

  5. SO tiny – so pretty! How do you sew in the round on something so small?!! Looking forward to checking out your tutorials and having the mystery revealed. I suppose I should be glad at this point that my kiddo doesn’t give a flip about dolls!!!!

  6. Have always failed miserably with Barbie clothes… too darn small.
So I counting on your tutorials to change that. Lol. x.

  7. Oh! So sweet! I love how some of Barbie’s outfits match Sadie’s! LOL, you are a nerd

  8. I particularly like that you can make Barbie some appropriate and modest clothing. Much of what they sell for Barbie now, is a tad on the hoochie side for me. Looking forward to your tutorials. Sadie’s Barbie is so cute and fashionable.

  9. Adorable. Her wardrobe is a million times better than mine. I also love that Liberty dress!

  10. Wow you rock! Way to go!

  14. Sooo cute! I love the 50s-esque style of the dresses! Can I get one of those grey/red flowered dresses in my size, please! Awesome. I look forward to seeing if this is actually something I can do!

  15. too cute!!! yay for barbie week…i might be needing to make some clothes soon. my daughter saw this post up on my computer and now she wants a barbie!

  16. So flippin’ awesome!!!!! I have been dragging my feet about introducing Barbie to my chickies, but I find myself strangely attracted to the Barbies every time I’m in the toy aisle at Target or wherever. It’s this werid love/hate thing – like I know that as a “modern woman” I should be rejecting Barbie and her impossible figure and stuff – but I loved playing with them and I don’t think it messed me up as a kid. At least I hope not. ANYWAY, I am totally excited for your tutorials!!

  17. Yup-that’s a liberty (from target) dress- I know, no fair, right? 😉

  18. wow! i will definitely come back here to see your tutorial, i love me some barbie clothes!
