recent crafties-aka nothing else to post about and a coupon code!

We're still feeling pretty yucky around here so posting might be light for a bit. Sorry...but to make up for it, here's a way old post I wrote and never put up! Don't you feel special now?

I've attended two crafty events recently (ok, like in November)-with organized crafts and teachers-they were both SO much fun. They are put on by our church, and I went to my own, and my friend Kim's. (she lives in another town...it was so much fun to hang with her all day!) At that event we made some adorable felt flowers to go on grapevine wreaths. Honestly, I almost slapped pins and hair clips to them....but I decided my kitchen fireplace needed them more than I did.

We used various felt flower techniques and made some up as we went. I get most of my wool felt here. I love wool felt, it's seriously gorgeous stuff to work with, and once you get some you'll never go back to the craft felt. It is more expensive, but oh so worth it.

We made these adorable pom pom necklaces (and some headbands) at the event held in my town, and I love how it turned out! I used grey knit, exactly like in the tutorial...I guess imitation was the sincerest form of flattery in this case!

Also, check out the winner of the Vibrant Designs giveaway here!

Also, she's got a coupon code for you, my lovely readers, for 20% off any item in her shop.  It will be good for one week from today!

Coupon code is CRAFTY20

easy trim headband-mini tutorial

**I'm feeling pretty cruddy (achey cold boohoo) so I'm leaving this giveaway open for one more day! Go get your entries in!**

I have lots of lovely trim lying around my sewing room, and the other day I was thinking... (and no, I didn't hurt myself. much.)....I should really use it more...and so these super easy headbands were born. They're very basic, but you could always slap a crocheted or fabric flower on them to fancy it up, or even just a clip.

I was given this lovely piece of trim from my pal and sewing co-hort, Jessie, for my birthday, I love the little lavender flowers on it!

All you need is:

3/8" elastic
at least 1 yard of trim-wider is better but skinnier trim would work, just hand sew the elastic on, and use 1/4" elastic

First I measured around Sadie's noggin-19.5". I cut a piece of trim that was 19", then a piece of elastic that was about 1.5" long.

Then I folded each raw edge of the trim under 1/2" , then sewed the elastic on top of the fold, on the wrong side of the trim.  That seemed to do the trick with sizing...but it's probably best to cut a slightly longer piece of elastic, sew one side on, then try it on and adjust before sewing on the other side.

Either way-it's pretty foul proof, and super easy to boot! I think this would look so cute for us big girls, with some lace trim! Hmmm......

simple beaded necklace

Hey, all! As promised, I've got a tutorial for a simple beaded necklace for ya!

You'll need:

chain (I used 17")
jump rings
an eye pin (mine was 5 cm long, often used for earrings)
3 small beads (mine were 8mm wide)
also a closure, not shown in this pic...oops!
Needle nose pliers and wire cutters

So first put the beads onto the eye pin...then trim it down about 1/2" from the beads.

With the pliers, bend the wire to the side...

then grab the end of the wire and loop it around...

Squeeze the wire loop closed tightly...

Then with the wire cutters cut down the chains to (mine were 8.5" long) and grab some jump rings. (you'll need 4 total, I dropped one so it missed out on it's photo op)

Then open one of the jump rings with your pliers and attach one end of the chain, and also one side of the beads, then close the ring.

It'll look like this now! Then do the same with the other chain.

Grab your closure and the other two jump rings...

And attach them to the ends of the chains.

Then you're all done!

I used my new Christmas straightener to do my hair today-and I feel like it made it a little greasy. Weird huh? You probably can't tell...but seriously I can usually go a good 4 days without washing and hardly any grease. So it's weird to have it the day after. Am I grossing you out yet? :P

Wow I'm as white as Edward Cullen in this picture. It's not a good look for me...so, since I'm not a vampire, I should probably work on getting a tan this upcoming summer so I don't frighten you all away when I wear shorts. eeeshk!

"hogs" and kisses valentines day treats

So, I'm hosting another Valentine exchange this year and spent way too much time I had a lot of fun coming up with our Valentines this year! I found these gummy pigs and bought some Hershey's kisses, then packaged a few bags up to show ya with a cute tag that said: "Hogs" and Kisses from Sadie and Charlotte!  lol. I was pretty proud of myself for thinking up something semi-original-at least in my mind it was...sooo.

bonus: the leftover piggies are pretty tasty....and I don't even like gummies!

Last year I made these I "dig" you valentines...and I've seen such cute ideas all over Pinterest lately! I just love Valentine's Day! It's the only day where eating a ton of chocolate is almost socially acceptable.

And hey, just for my bloggy friends, (aka whoever wants 'em) I also made up some little tags, or cupcake toppers, that you guys can download here.  Print, then punch them out with a 2" circle or scalloped punch. :)

P.S. I'm so bummed that Picnik's closing! :(

P.P.S. Anyone else totally OBSESSED with Downton Abbey? I love it!

pleated yoke tutorial

So....I was thinking the other day......I should do a tutorial for a self-lining bib/yoke, very similar to this dress I made for Charlotte last Easter. So I did.

I have a huge thing for bibs....yokes....slobber-catchers....whatever you may call them. I think they add an adorable touch to a dress. I've used them a lot.  lol. (each word of that last sentence was a link, by the way. Not joking when I say a lot.)

I loove the grey and teal together! I think pretty much every darn color looks great with grey. (and mustard yellow for that matter...ya with me?)

So...I messed up how the waistband lined up in back with the invisible zip, so I covered it with a quick bow-simply safety pinned on. You could also sew it on, but I don't think fabric bows wash up very well, so I like being able to remove them.

Of course, did this one get removed before I washed it? NOooooope. Do as I say, not as I do, folks.

agh! enough of the cuteness, C. You're killin' me. I love babies in pigtails.

YES SHE IS STILL A BABY.

I may or may not be in denial about this.

So let's get on with it! I won't have instructions for every part of this dress, since mostly it's to show you how to do the yoke. I will show ya what I took pictures of though!

See below for the tutorial!
