only-the-essentials felt wallet

So whenever we go to Disneyland, I hate bringing my wallet into the park. It’s big, cumbersome, and I don’t need half the stuff in it. (really, just my annual pass card or ticket, ID, debit card, and some cash.)

I also hate grabbing my bag whenever we go on rides because I’m afraid someone will take my wallet if I leave it in our stroller. I do it, but I hate toting it along. So I whipped together this little felt wallet for my essentials-it’s small enough to stick in my pocket or camera bag, but it fits what I need!

Here’s how I made it. (this would also be a great little kid wallet or play wallet)

You”ll need:

felt (I use a wool felt blend)
velcro
thread

Cut one piece of felt 8.25″x4.5″
Cut a small piece 3″x1″
I also cut out some embellishments but only used the small flower.

I folded the long ends in so that they were even and there was about an inch between them, then pressed it with my iron. (on the wool setting)

Then I placed my strap like so on one side.

I opened it up and sewed it to the blue felt in a square and then an x.

Then I wrapped it around the opening and figured out where to place my velcro. I drew a little mark with disappearing ink.

I then sewed on my other piece of velcro on the strap.

and added the flower!

Then I sewed both sides together, using my presser foot as my guide (about 3/8″ seam)

Then I trimmed the edges with pinking shears, tada!
It’ll look like this from the inside.

Slip your essentials in, and you’re good to go!

Quick, easy, and if you ruin it somehow it will only take 10  minutes to make another.

Gotta love quick projects!
