pretty easy baby blanket

My sister in law Stephanie is expecting a baby girl this next month-and mentioned the other week that she hadn’t had the energy to do any sewing or crafting, but really wanted to….I can totally relate to that last month of pregnancy energy lull-blerg. And even though they have lots of girl stuff from their older daughter, every new baby needs some of their own special things. That’s my belief and I’m sticking to it! πŸ˜‰

Β It was really the least I could do-at first I toyed with making a quilt-but knew I just didn’t have the time. So I searched through my minky stash and grabbed this soft pink polka dot minky from my sponsor So Tweet Fabrics…and then scanned my fabric store stash, and came up with more than a few pairings that worked, but this is the one that stuck out to me as the most Steph-like. I think it’s Amy Butler…anyone know for sure? Edit: it is Amy Butler!

Anyways, it’s the simplest of blankets-here’s a little how to! (click here to print it out)

Easy peasy, but so useful and cute.

Β The girls were big fans of the soft minky side and bright colors-and excited to send it off to their newest cousin-to-be!

I also sent her some hand me down sleepers in sizes they needed, and whipped up some quick headbands-using some flowers I had already made and some store bought ones (coral flower from The Ribbon Retreat, large white one from Michaels)Β  as well- just glued a length of FOE elastic together, overlapping the edges (14-15″ seems to fit through the whole first year), then hot-gluing on the flowers, and a circle of felt over the back to keep it nice and tidy. I still need to do a tute for that teal flower! It was a practice one from Project Run and Play πŸ™‚

  1. Oh my gosh! Ava looks so big! It seems I haven’t seen her in a post in a few weeks and she looks so big! And is your oldest chewin’ on her ear? Beautiful blanket and this is the way I make mine πŸ™‚

  2. Oh yay! I forgot that you did the dresses last year. I did too. I was so excited to squeeze in some shields this year between our last summer vacation ending and school starting. I did 10 but I’m anxious to hear back to know what else I can do with the extended deadline. Will you share pictures of some of the things you did? Liners? Shields?

  3. That is definitely Amy Butler fabric – I have some in my stash! Beautiful blanket, definitely pinning this πŸ™‚

  10. This is great! I was looking for something easy to make my baby (she’s due in May), and this is perfect! I can’t sit at the machine for too long, but this will still get me something checked off my list. πŸ™‚
