Pattern anthology alphabet collection: My look!

I am so excited to share with you today my take on the new Pattern Anthology: Alphabet Collection! (maybe they saved the best for last on their blog tour?…nope just lazy ol’ me signed up for the last day I could, haha)
These ladies (all such lovely friends, bloggers, and pattern designers!) have seriously outdone themselves. Their collection is unisex, versatile, and perfect for back to school sewing! The blog tour is sponsored by some amazing shops, as well, where we got all our fabric for our looks from. I’ll update you as I go where I got the different fabrics from, and more about each fantastic pattern.
The PA girls provided an affiliate program too, so if you are so inclined to purchase this collection you can click right below to do so! I think today is the last day to get it at the discounted price!
The Pattern Anthology Alphabet Collection is a unisex, fall line, designed with “back-to-school” in mind. The four piece collection includes a pair of slim pants, knit raglan tee, shawl collar vest and zip bomber jacket. The pieces are meant to be layered, mixed and matched. Each pattern is graded for sizes 12-18M to 8.

First: the W pants, designed by Melissa from Blank Slate Patterns and Melly Sews.
I don’t usually like sewing pants (which is why these are capris, lol), but Melissa totally changed my mind with this pattern! The fit was amazing on my skinny gal ( I sewed up a 4T), and the length=perfect. She loved the pockets and the zip pocket on back. I left off the zip fly because, well, I wanted to sew them up quickly…haha. Next time I’ll tackle it. I used the same fabric for the yoke feature on back so keep it simple, since I was pattern mixing. (more on that below…) The fabric for these pants was from the Michael Levine shop: lowpricefabric.com

Ohmygersh. This zip pocket is divine, right? And SO, SO easy. Like: I was zipping it back and forth,  laughing maniacally afterwards: it was so easy.

I took a chance with some pattern mixing-it took me FOREVER to choose fabric, lol…but it all worked out and ended up looking how I’d envisioned!

The Recess Raglan, designed by Kate from See Kate Sew, is fantastic! Such a quick, easy sew…and a great fit, once I figured out that yes, Sadie is pretty much still a size 2 in the chest. haha! She loves this tee and I see more in our future. I used some amazingly soft floral jersey knit from Girl Charlee for this tee. I also shortened the sleeves a bit more than the pattern has you do, and lengthened the band for the collar, since my kids have 90th percentile heads…seriously)

Next up: the Study Hall Jacket, designed by Andrea from GoTo Patterns and The Train to Crazy!
Begin slow clap. Wow. This was definitely the most challenging piece in the collection for me, but once I figured out how the bottom band went in, it came together so nicely! Kudos to her for figuring all that out….glad it wasn’t me! I sewed this one up in a 4T and it fits great!

I used this luscious peacock blue wool blend from lowpricefabric.com and love how that worked out. It’s a really warm snuggly jacket that will be perfect for our crisp fall days coming up! I loved using the separating zipper from Coats and Clark-it adds a professional touch and was SO easy to insert. They provided all the zippers and thread for our projects, which was great because I am already familiar with their products, so I felt right at home sewing with them!

I added the ruffled welt pockets and ruffled collar to my version. Again. LOVE.

Last but not least, the BBC Vest, designed by Shauna of Shwin and Shwin. I’ve actually never sewn a vest before, and wasn’t sure how I’d like it on Sadie, but now, I’m singing a different tune! There are two versions to her vest, and the girly version, which I sewed, has perfect little details that I love. And it totally brings the pants and top together and looks so fashion forward! I used some buttery soft white twill from Organic Cotton Plus for the vest which makes the vest POP and hopefully won’t get too dirty. lol. Sadie is pretty good with her clothes so far…

I love the pleated peplum, and racerback-these little details are what make an amazing pattern!

It buttons in front with an adorable yellow polka dot button from lowpricefabric!

So there’s my take on their collection! I loved them all and think it turned out one darn cute outfit. Thanks ladies, for having me on your tour, and thanks to the amazing sponsors who made this happen!

aaand: scene.

  10. Fantastic, Jess! I have GOT to do a white vest version. And that jacket looks soooo cozy – I’m pretty sure I wish it was mine. Could Sadie be any cuter?

  11. I love the whole look! The little white vest is adorable with that floral tee. I also wasn’t sure I loved vests on little girls, but then this collection and the tour has changed all that. Great job!

  12. If she is not the cutest ever! Then I’ll eat my hat. 😉 Great job on…well, everything! ha. I really like the capri length. I will have to give that a go with Nat maybe in the Spring when she is big enough. Oh and definitely that vest. Oh my goodness. So cute.
