shorts for Ava (and a pattern giveaway!)

I seem to be sewing up a storm for little Ava lately…which makes sense because

A: my other girls were summer newborns, so the clothes they wore are off season right now.
B: tiny baby clothes are irresistible
and
C: I freaking love to sew.

As I mentioned before, I pattern tested Dana’s new shorts pattern earlier in the month, and these were the second round of shorts! I had to try out the racer short version, and play around with the pockets a little. And of course, each pair needed a matching onesie. It’s just common sense.ย  All of these shorts were made with 3/4″ elastic and in the 12 mo size, and I also shortened the hem 1/2″.

So: racer shorts. LOVED these. I used some fantastic bias tape that I’ve been hoarding, purchased from this shop. Tip: I found that sewing through the bias tape while sewing the waistband was going to be too thick for my machine, so I just sewed up to the tape, back stitched, then started sewing on the other side. Worked fine! The fabric is from Riley Blake by Tasha Noel.

The onesie I made using my ric rac flower tutorial and some buttons, sewn right onto the onesie! Easy and cute.

I also trimmed these gray polka dot shorts with some fuschia piping-love how that combo turned out. The fabric is Bubbles in Gray from Lily Bella Fabrics. The stencil is the same one I used for my dresser redo! Although I think Rory may have accidentally thrown it away after I used it for the onesie, cause I can’t find it anywhere and it WAS trash night. Sad day.

Kind of my favorite onesie! I just used tape and some fabric paint to create the stripes across the front-sliding some cardboard inside to protect the back (I did the same with the stenciled onesie above) Then I sewed on a few buttons to bring in the yellow of the shorts-which I did the same pockets with some ric rac trim. Fun!

ย So how’d you like to win the pattern for yourself? Sweet, cause we’re giving away a copy of the Kid Shorts pattern to 3 winners! yippee! Enter below:

  11. Such cute outfits! I’m getting excited about this pattern, I just won it from another blog’s giveaway, looking forward to sewing some baby girl shorts for my daughter too (and my son, of course not girlie ones though;)).

  12. Those are freakin’ adorable! I hadn’t seen this pattern yet. I love that your raffle copter didn’t have a billion and fifteen entries…I usually get annoyed because bloglovin slows them down so much I usually give up after a couple entries. I so excited about this pattern, and I love what you did with it!
