knit dress tutorials for birch fabrics!

I am so excited to be posting over on the Birch Fabrics blog today! I’ll be sharing some tips on sewing with knits, plus tutorial for both these cute dresses, today! These dresses were made awhile ago, and I was lucky enough to get my hands on their new knit fabric early! I absolutely love the new Birch Fabric organic knits, they are dreamy to sew with and so comfy. My girls adored the dresses I made for them. So soft and luscious!

I had fun changing up a simple A-line dress in two different ways-I can’t even decide which is my favorite! Which is yours?

I used their gorgeous Poppies in Coral for this dress-which features some sweet ruffles on the front, gathered sleeves, and bias tape on the neckline and sleeves.

And for my second, I made Miss C a little deer dress-she needed another one, I guess. I adore this dress! I used Birch Fabrics, Elk Fam in Sun-and it features a color blocked front, easy banded sleeves, and a removable bow. (you can pin it where you want it and then remove it for washing!)

So hop on over to their blog to see the tutorials!

  1. They’re both adorable! I think Charlotte’s deer dress wins my favorite vote, but only by a smidge. It must be the giant bow. ๐Ÿ˜€

  2. Adorable dresses!

  3. I love the coral colour and the deer print best! But love both the dresses and of course both models are too adorable as always.

  4. I pretty much love everything you make–my Pinterest boards are proof of that! I’m loving the coral dress best today. Thanks for sharing!

  5. Both of these dresses are adorable! My daughter loves a knit dress ๐Ÿ™‚ And I love the little deer print on your second dress!

  6. Sooooooo cute.

  7. I would like you to just pick out all my fabrics for me, is that cool? ๐Ÿ˜‰

  8. Thanks for the tutorials! I never used a biais-tape for knits in the way you do, will certainly try ๐Ÿ™‚

Do you use a twin-needle for knits, with ballpoint-tips? I ask because where i live, the red block on the twins means “regular”, the twins for knits have a blue block.

  9. So cute! Love both of them!

About how much fabric would I need to buy to make a size 8? I love these dresses! I just found your blog last week… you are an amazing sewer and so creative!

  11. Good evening Jess! I love the dresses of your daughters but as I am following your blog for quite some time tonight I was seeing Miss C. and my God how much she’s grow. In the photographs she seems to be almost as tall as Sadie and those cheeks and that lovely smile. How about Ava?. Love!

  12. Very cute dresses, both of them! When you use the lightning bolt stitch, what width setting do you use? Thank you!

  13. They are both adorable!!

  14. I love the coral colour knit … I haven’t been game enough to try sewing with knits yet, but I’ll pop over and check our your tutorial ๐Ÿ™‚

  15. I love the coral print, but the little removal bow on the deer dress is so cute! Plus both your girls are so adorable, its hard to pick which dress is “cuter.” ๐Ÿ™‚

  18. Hi Jess, I have two girls myself so I enjoy seeing the clothes you make for your daughters. I am cleaning out some old patterns and I have some vintage child patterns that I would like to find a new home for. Would you be interested? I wasn’t sure how to contact you so you can email me if you want more details. [email protected] – Valerie

  19. Eeek! These are both adorable, but I’m loving that big bow… So sweet.
