I’ve always loved hot air balloons. I’ve never rode in one, and probably never will (I’m skeered of heights) but they are just so darn adorable. I love the ones with different colored panels…it’s the quilter in me I guess! I drew my inspiration from a few I found on Etsy and had to make my own for the new nursery decor. Maybe it will be hot air balloon themed. I dunno! I’m not huge on themed rooms…but I did buy some elephant fabric for the crib skirt…er…maybe elephants riding in hot air balloons can be the theme? *chirp chirp* Yeah.
It is all hand stitched. I know, yowsa! Seriously though, it was really relaxing…and my fingertips only hurt for the last two balloons… π I think I needed a slow paced project to ease me into working on that huge pile of fabric I ordered. I used wool felt (and wool blend) as I am a felt snob. Yes I admit it freely! If you’ve never worked with wool felt…please do yourself a favor and get your hands on some. The quality is amazing…and the colors are fabulous. I get most of mine here, though the coral (salmon) colored felt is from here.
I will have a pattern and tutorial up soon! Even for the wood hanger. You could make any shape in felt you desire to hang up…it would still be assembled the same way.
So what do you think? Are you enamored with hot air balloons too? What shapes are you imagining floating above your head? Cause who said mobiles are just for the bebes? I just wrote a whole paragraph in questions?
Love it. I think I want one of these above my own bed. I think I would have the most peaceful and amazing dreams that way. Perfect!
adorbs! If we have another bub, I think I will have to make one of these – it’s cool that it’s unisex too π I have pinned it!
I love it, and I especially love the colours – something other than pink for your new girl. Looking forward to the tutorial.
So cool idea π It looks very cute and so light…
Great Job, I love it!
This is such a CUTE mobile!! I love it! Great job.
I am so in love with this Jess! I too have a thing for hot air balloons, there is just something so ‘happy’ about them. I have never been in one, and to tell you the truth – with my fear of heights, I don’t know if I ever will be. But that doesn’t stop me from loving them! Your mobile is perfection :).
Hand stitched?! Ummm….wowza.
Aww, I love this! I have a slight wool felt obsession myself…. So nice to work with. π
I love this moblie! It’s so sweet. But I’ve never understood how most mobiles are made to be viewed from the side when the baby will be viewing it from beneath. I think when I make the next one, I’ll attach the string to the backs.
so so cute!!
So nice!!!
So cute. I’ve got another baby on the way too and this is the perfect project to take on. Can’t wait for the tutorial! Are you going to post pics of the new baby’s room?
I won grand prize in a county coloring contest when I was in kindergarten in SoCal, which meant I got to go up in a hot air balloon, it was amazing! I wrote about it in my recently published book. We might be adopting another baby very soon and I love this idea!

I love it! well done. It looks super fab!! Sue x
This is so cute, Niblet would love it. He already has a wooden mobile with planes and a hot air baloon in the middle, though, so I’ll have to find someone else to make this for coz it’s so gorgeous.
I can’t wait to see how to put together the wood hanger! I want to do one with planets for my boys’ room.
That is just the cutest mobile ever! I love it so much!
That is so stinkin’ cute!!! I LOVE hot air balloons!!
Super cute Jess. I’ve always loved your style. π
P.S. All the little hand-stitching is so cute. You even made the little brown ropes! π
Simply adorable! Great job!
I love it!
Elephants on hot air balloons? “There’s too much weight aboard! Throw out that trunk!” π
I love hot air balloons too, and your mobile is so cute! I love the different colors. =)
Love this SO much – it’s super sweet and dreamy. Handstitching was the perfect touch. I’ve never been in a HAB (new acronym) either, but there is an annual festival near here that I should really check out. No fear of heights for me; I’d go up in a heartbeat! π
Beautiful! So serene and peaceful! Love the colours and I’m impressed by the handstitching π
so amazingly cute! love the hand stitched felt – it’s such a “I made it with love” look. And I love hand stitching as well – find it very relaxing! Great job!
So cute! I haven’t decided what mobile I want to make for our nursery yet. We just started painting yesterday so I still have some time to decide. This is beautiful though and such a great idea. π
AAAHHHH! I’m screaming cause it’s some cute awesomeness!!! I CANNOT wait to see your tutorial! I don’t have children but I gotta find a way to put this in my house! lol!
i love hot air balloons too and have made a quilt with them on it and have wanted to make a mobile too. yours is adorable!!
Seriously cute! I was going to have a hot air balloon theme in my Kinderboy’s room, but somehow never quite got past the quilt.
Google the picture ‘Babar Et Les Ballons” by Laurent De Brunhoff- author/illustrator of the Barbar the elephant books.
Perfect for your nursery!
i am loving those sweet puffy clouds! its just adorable – well done you ;)*
SO CUTE!!!
Bravo! C’esb magnifique!
Where did you buy the mobile hanger?
I’m enamored with the idea of a tutorial for the wooden part. I’ve been wanting to make a mobile for my soon to be baby, but I am intimidated by making the wood part from scratch!
So very interested in a tutorial!! π Would love to make something like this, and get my husband to help with the wooden part.
gah…so cute!! I love hot air balloons too- I’ve never rode in one either though, unless dreams count! π
Love the hot air balloon mobile! Also, love your wall color! What color is that? Thanks!
Do you have a tutorial for the hot air balloon mobile? Itβs really cute. Measure the comments are from 2012 though so I donβt even know if youβre still around!
