Vintage pattern with modern fabric

I love to sew vintage styles with modern fabric-the fresh colors and patterns update a dated pattern instantly! Wouldn’t you agree? I wish I’d done that waistband in a different fabric but nothing matched that red. I mean, nothing. That’s why I stuck some green buttons on it!

Sadie wasn’t a big fan of this dress-so I don’t know if it will get worn at all. Maybe it will get gifted or listed in the Etsy shop. Ya win some, ya lose some. Either way, it was fun using this vintage pattern I’d thrifted awhile back!

Aren’t those little kids groovy!? Sadie said she wanted the pink overalls. lol. Might have to-shortened of course since summer’s coming.

Β It also comes with a creepy clown doll pattern. Score. Tossed that right in the trash.

Anyways, guess this is kind of a pattern review-I had to make things up a few times-the way the front skirt and bib are attached isn’t well explained so I winged it…it came out fine so no biggie. I do love the fabric but I wish I’d used some coordinating fabrics instead to make the waistband and pockets pop a bit more.

  5. I think those green buttons are really fun! I like the back a lot. I kinda wish you’d posted a picture of the creepy clown. . . .

  6. This is adorable! I love it. You are soooo talented!

  7. This is so cute! The fabric goes so well with the pattern, just love it!

  8. My husband’s aunt gave me the motherload of vintage patterns, going back even to the 40s. Looking through them, they definitely were not as thorough with the directions, but then again, those ladies could blow most of us away with their sewing skills back then, so they didn’t need them I’m sure. =)

  9. Oh I think this is gorgeous!!! Love the vintage style but it looks so fresh πŸ™‚
If you need someone to gift it to my little girl would be very happy! πŸ˜‰

  10. Jess I love that dress. I have the same pattern or pretty darn close. But vintage, I don’t know. I have been using the same patterns since my mom taught me to sew. And when mom died I went thru her sewing stuff and got her patterns too. They are all from the 50’s and I love the styles, they are coming back you know.!!! I think they are tried and true and never go out of style.

  15. Oh, SO cute! I have that same pattern. The clown is very creepy.

  16. Cute jumper. I have a vintage pattern for a jumper that is very similar. I bought two big boxes of vintage children’s patterns at an auction a couple of years ago. I love them. I also have a small collection of vintage fabrics that were given to me. It makes for great fun in the sewing room!

  17. Hi! to me, kids patterns like these never really go out of style – this is so sweet esp with your new fabric. Sweet little model you have there πŸ™‚ I found your site thru StumbleUpon, your post about the scrap key rings – love it! Putting your button on my site. Thanks for sharing your tutorial about them.
