On the other hand….I love that it’s getting colder! And by colder, I mean…the low was 59 degrees today. Still, to us Californians, that’s cold weather! Tuesday we went grocery shopping (exciting!) and I ran errands while the girls went to Grandma school. (even more exciting! except it was to the hardware and dollar store….)
Top and Tank: Downeast-$5, and $10
Sweater: Made by me, $7 in materials (used this idea)
Jeans: Old Navy-$25
Shoes: Ross-$10
Necklace: Vintage-Etsy-$12.50
Goofy pose: priceless
Total: $69.50
I call this my popcorn necklace. (like, just named it that right this second.)
I love these comfy grey flats-they are great, although the size stickers won’t totally come off the inside. Also it has a stray thread hanging off the left one. The things you notice in pictures.
Rory was home sick Wenesday so I bullied him into taking pictures for me. (don’t worry he wasn’t THAT sick) Thanks hon! It’s nice having in focus pictures. Today was spent cleaning the kitchen, working out, then a quick (yeah right) trip to Michael’s to stock up on ornament making goodies. I work with the 8-12 year old girls in my church, and we were making some that afternoon. Popsicle stick snowflakes and salt dough shapes. It was a blast!
Top: Ralph Lauren-thrifted-$4
Tank: Downeast-$10
Jeans: gift from sis-$0
Shoes: Old Navy-$10
Necklace: Forever 21-$4
Ring: Etsy-$9
Total: $37
Did I say he took in-focus pictures? haha. Guess I lied. I love this top-it’s soo comfortable but I feel like it’s still flattering. Even though it has horizontal stripes. I love stripes. And it’s pretty swanky-Ralph Lauren? Dry clean only? No way I could afford this from the designer store. That’s why I love thrifting so much! (by the way, I have a thrifting tips post in the works!)
Close up of the necklace….
I am aware that my poses could use some work. What can I say? I am just a big dork. Just be glad I didn’t show you my wiggity wack gansta pose. Seriously, be glad.
Today was park day, and man was it WINDY and chilly, but I was toasty warm in this giant sweater and my boots. The girls were equally bundled up. I also wore this out shopping for an identical pair of jeans to the ones I am wearing. They are my absolute favorites! (my sis gave them to me) I was pretty sure she got them at Ross, since that is her favorite store, so I headed there and found another pair! ($11.99 thankyaverymuch) They may not be the best quality but they are good enough for me. And comfy enough. So get ready to see them in practically every post.
P.S. Sadie always tells me, “Mom I cut off your head!” then giggles, when she takes shots like these. Slowly but surely she’s getting better though. She is only 3, after all.
Top: Kohls, clearance-$10
Tank: Downeast-$10
Jeans: gift from sis-$0
Boots: Old Navy-$25
Sweater: Old Navy-$25 (?)
Necklace: made by me-$5 in materials from Michaels
Total: $75
So yeah I “made” the necklace (which I added after the other pictures)…woot! Jewelry making is soo easy. haha. At least the kind where you hook some jump rings and chains together. tada. That’s about all the jewelry making I can handle.
Friday was playdate and our church annual Fantastic Friday (night of crafts!). They were both a blast. I made some adorable headbands and a necklace that you’ll be seeing soon. Today was again, about staying warm. I’m such a wimpy Cali girl!
Top: Made by me-$15 in materials
Tank: Downeast-$10
Cardigan: thrifted-$5
Jeans: gift from sis-$0
Boots: Old Navy-$25
Scarf-Target-$6
Rings: Etsy-$15
Earrings-Forever 21-$3
Total: $79
I love these stackable rings I got on Etsy…they are so versatile, yet simple.
I am obsessed with collecting scarves this winter. They’re so cozy!
Sunday is supposed to be a day of rest, but that doesn’t always happen when you have littles, am I right? So say hi to Charlotte! She snuck into my pictures cause she was a grumpy girl. 🙂 She also has a thing for remotes-we find them stashed in random places all over the house.
Top: Downeast-$10
Skirt/Dress: thrifted-$2
Belt: Target-$3 (I actually swapped it out for a thrifted navy belt but Rory WOULD NOT take any more pictures that day)
Cardigan: Target-$15
Earrings: Gifted to me by my bestie
Shoes: thrifted-$6
Cute little baby girl: Priceless
Total: $36
I found this skirt thrifting and loved the pattern. $2? into my cart you go, little cutie pie skirt. I thought I would probably chop it off and hem it, but turns out pulling it up to my armpits and belting it made a pretty comfy “dress” too.
I also attempted to do my hair today, with this tutorial. haha. As you can see I need some practice. You can see my earrings better here, too. They were a birthday present a few years back and matched the fabric of my “dress” perfectly.
What have you been wearing to stay warm? Or cool…?
fave outfit post yet! I could seriously live in that first outfit every single day. As soon as I saw it, I was like “tell me she didn’t make that cardigan..tell me she didn’t make…crap. She made it.” Since I can’t buy it, you have to make me one too. And those shoes? perfect. And exactly the kind of thing you could never find if you were looking for them. jealous of your shopping/thrifting karma!
You look so cute in your cardis. Love them…can’t ever have enough. And the striped one is amazing!
Kristina J.
I am equally as awkward in photographs, thats why I love these so much. Your outfits are always a hoot, keep ’em coming.
Love your striped cardi and the thrifted dress! Also your jeans. Do you mind telling us more? I am also a wimpy Californian, now living where it does get actually cold. 🙁 And I am pretty clueless about posing for the camera. 🙂
Cute outfits! I swear we are obsessed with the same pair of Ross jeans. I bought skinny jeans just like yours at Ross for about the same price ($12.99), same color, same everything and LOVE them. They have stretch to them and I think they are more comfortable than my pajamas. I’m dying to go back and find another pair cause I can’t stop wearing them! Love them!
Ummm…please don’t stop these posts…cause I get inspriation from it and lots of good laughs too! Make’s me try to put a few things together and actually get in the shower before 4:00 in the afternoon since I was in my work out clothes all day and cleaning house.
Loved this post. Where did you get that great striped material for the cardigan you made? It is SO fantastic!
I love these posts! They inspire me to go thrifting for myself – I have no problem thrifting for furniture or household stuff, but I rarely make the time to search through the clothes racks.
Just so you know, I am holding you personally responsible for all the money I am spending on jewelry on Etsy lately. And loving every minute of it! Wearing my copy-you ball locket necklace today, with a mustard and cream striped top, yellow layered chunky bracelets on clearance at Target for $2, a chocolate brown lace cami under the t and some jeans from Winners, which is the Canadian equivalent to TJ Maxx. Along with some expensive ankle boots. But let me tell you, I look HOT 😉
I love your outfit posts, and no they are not vain. It’s all about sharing who you are! Because of you, I scored some of my own deals on cardigans at Goodwill last week. So Thanks! Keep them coming!
Hello Jess. I´m Brazilian. I´m not speacking english.
Há algum tempo acompanho seu blog. É incrível! Você é dedicada e criativa.
Como consegue tempo pra casa, marido, filhas e projetos de costura?
Parabéns

Haha Jess, Everyone here in Idaho makes fun of me for already wearing thermals under all my clothes. You can take the girl out of California but you can’t take the California out of the girl! haha.
Tabitha used to steal the remote too, we got her the sesame street remote and she stopped, maybe that would help with your lost remotes 🙂
Love your outfits, Jess!
your outfits are adorable! maybe cold weather aint too bad after all! 🙂
xx
Very cute. Love your outfit choices. I can see how practicing with your style is fun and makes getting dressed more creative. You are adorable! Don’t take this the wrong way, because you know I think you are AWESOME, but maybe take your pictures away from that fence or plant some grass there!! I know you live in CA and grass can grow 🙂 I don’t want to see you in those cute outfits on the dirt anymore!!
Hi Jess,
I love your outfits, thanks for sharing. I was inspired to go my local woman assistance league (if you have one near you, I highly recommend checking it out). I bought a cute purse and some berets that I love wearing in the winter. Thanks for reminding me that I should keep thrifting.
Oh, you just look so darn adorable! Such cute outfits!
Yes very inspiring. I have felt like such a frump recently. I hate putting outfits together! Thanks for showing us it can be done!
