vintage sheet to maxi dress

tada! I love* posting my to do list on the blog, then I have some accountability with you guys to finish it! so here’s my finished vintage sheet into maxi dress! I kind of love it.ย  Especially with this belt I thrifted on the same trip as the sheet. I only wish I’d sewn pockets in! Well, it’d be easy to unpick the seam and add some, but let’s face it, it’s done and I probably won’t.

*only when it’s something I really want to do…and not something like tweeze my eyebrows or vacuum my sewing room floor.

It’s swingy and flowy and fun. (and that strap doesn’t want to stay on my shoulder.) It was not too bad of a sew (I used this pattern), just a little crazy wrestling with the fabric to cut the pieces out. It was a BIG sheet. I have a ton leftover. Do I sense some mommy and me outfits? (just kidding guys! or am I…)

I even whipped out the shoulder pop for you guys. (that’s a legit modeling term. er, swear.)

ย  and the “hippie dancing in a field”.

Thanks to my sister Janae for taking these pics for me, and to the runners who ran past as quickly as they could, avoiding eye contact with the weird girls taking pictures in a field. We appreciate your eye contact avoidance.ย  It made it much less awkward.

  1. Super cute Jess. I love those kind of dresses. And cute pics too!

  2. Cute! Now I wanna make mine! BTW LOVE that belt!!

  3. LOVE it! Great job ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Love how the dress turned out!

  5. CUTE! I love it! And what a fabulous sheet! The only good vintage sheet I have is suuuuuuuper thin, and also not fractionally as cute. Also I’ve made the pillowcases into dresses for the girls already so it’s really doubtful that I should make myself a maxi dress out of it, despite it being tempting. Because you just know Nicole would be demanding we all match. And though my little heart would be full of much joy, it would be the “lets not leave the house though ‘kay?” kind.

  6. It’s beautiful!

  7. Looks Awesome! Your sister did a great job with the pics!

  8. First of all, this post totally cracked me up! There is nothing more awkward than someone seeing you take pictures of yourself (which is why I usually do it in my backyard while my neighbors are at church…so sneaky). As for the dress, well, it’s gorgeous. It really does look lovely on you and perfect for summer. And I’m in awe that you made it out of a sheet. Oh, and you know I’m all for mommy and me matching outfits!

  9. LOVE the cross bodice. You did great!

  16. Jess it turned out so cute! It looks breezy and perfect for summer!! Love these pictures of you too!! I think you should use the leftover fabric to make coordinating outfits for your girls (mixed with other fabrics). You don’t all have to wear them on the same day. . . . ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m glad the runners didn’t stare you down. ha.
