LOVE felt wall hanging tutorial

I guess I”m in LOVE (hehe) with red and white together! It’s so graphic and quite striking.
(didn’t I sound all designer-ish there? ha. ha. ha.)
Wanna make this quick and easy wall hanging?

Click below for more details!

You’ll need:
felt-I used a wool felt blend, and got about 1/2 yard of white, and 1/3 yard of red, but didn’t use half of either. (I needed it for other projects too.)
fabric glue
matching thread
1/4″ dowel, cut to 12″ long
rotary cutter and mat are pretty useful for the exact cuts in this tutorial
letter template (or you can make your own)
freezer paper is handy if you’re using wool felt
So first; let’s cut your pieces out. I chose white for the back piece. No real reason.
Cut one piece of white 11″x13″, and two pieces of white 5.5″x6.5″
Then cut two red pieces 5.5″x6.5″.
(by the way, totally was playing with my camera settings, so sorry about the dark, then light, then dark photos. )
Alright! If you’re using freezer paper, trace over your letter template (paper side up).
If you’re using craft felt, cut out the template, pin to your felt, and cut out the letters. (L and E in white, O and V in red)
If you’re using wool felt and the FP, iron the FP on the felt (wool setting of course) for a few seconds.
Cut out your letters and peel off the FP.
Now arrange your letters on the coordinating blocks, and pin down when you’re happy with the spacing around the letters.
using your matching thread, sew around the letters, about 1/8″ from the edge. Just take it slow and steady.
Now, to put it together. I used fabric glue because I wanted a clean look on the front and didn’t want to take a chance on the blocks getting crooked when sewing them. By all means, sew it if you want!
Lifting up the inside corner of each block, put a thin line of glue along the inside like so, and lightly press it down, making sure the corners are all matched up! Repeat for the other blocks.
Now for the tabs to hang it: cut three pieces of red felt 1″x2.5″. Fold in half, glue together at the end.

Then I lined it up on my mat and inserted them into the open top, gluing all over the place to keep those suckers in. Just kidding. Well, sorta….anyways.
Then glue the sides and bottom closed along the edge, and you’re almost done!
Make sure to let it dry completely. I plopped a couple of books on top so that it would dry flat.
Insert your dowel, tie on some ribbon on the ends, (i found some pom pom trim that looks adorable!) and you’re done!
Hope you enjoyed the Love fest. 😉 Happy Crafting!
