purple checkered dress

I kind of love this combo of purple and black/white.

Soooo I had this onesie (purple of course), and it made it through Sadie’s infant days unscathed, but Charlotte proved to be the better blower-outer of diapers. It was ruined from the waist down. At first, I was just going to toss it, but then I remembered this tutorial from Make it and Love it, and it worked perfectly for this pleated dress!

For anyone interested in my dimensions-I used a 3 month size onesie, which was 8 inches wide at the waist. My skirt pieces were 24″ by 11″. I also left a gap in the back where I didn’t sew down the pleats, for easy on/off.
Here’s a mid-project shot-cute huh? I should have just left it like that. Charlotte could have rocked it.
Alas, it was hideous not meant to be.
I cut a long strip of fabric 2 1/2″ long, ironed it in half, and sewed a basting stitch down the raw edge side. Then I gathered it slightly, and, starting from the outside in, pinned and sewed it in a rough circle til it looked like a flower. Just tuck in the center as best you can.
yikes- bad picture-why is it so hard to photograph dark fabrics? It’s much cuter in real life!
