candy corn softie tutorial

candy corn softie tutorial and free pattern!

i’m not a big fan of the actual candy corn, but the stuffed version i like just fine.it’s a lot more cuddly too.

i suppose you could cuddle with the candy, but it might get sticky.

edit: er. candy corn is yellow on the bottom. then orange, THEN white. oh well. i like this way better, but if you feel the need, go ahead and make yours the “correct” way. or be like me and rebel against the man!

alright, enough joking around. aren’t these the cutest?! i love dressing up for halloween, but not so much for the decorating. too much spooky stuff. (i scare easily.)

you’ll need: orange, yellow, and white fabrics, cut into 3.5 inch by 8.5 inch strips, 2 per color, per candy corn
thread
sewing machine
rotary cutter
poly fil
scissors
candy corn pattern (click <—there)

so…cut your fabrics! 3.5″ by 8.5″ 2 per fabric per corn

sew the orange to the yellow, and white to the yellow, with 1/4″ seam

cute colors already, huh? press seams down.

make sure to line up the seams, right sides together, lay the pattern out, and cut!

then pin!

sew around 1/4″ seam, leaving about 2 inches on the bottom to turn, back stitch at beginning and end.

clip corners with scissors (carefully!)

turn right side out and press opening (it will make it easier to slip stitch later)

stuff it with poly fil to your heart’s content. then, slip stitch the opening closed with a needle and thread. this little photo set shows how. easy peasy!

then, display for halloween! i think they’d be cute smaller too!

  1. I would make those cute candy corns! I dislike the cutting/prep work on projects more than sewing. I hope I win!

  2. LOVE these softie candy corns! Let’s see, my favorite Halloween candy would have to be either the mini Kit Kats or the mini Milky Way Dark bars! I think the BEST Halloween costume I ever had was when I dressed up as a California Raisin! My Nana made the costume and it was awesome though one older woman thought I was an eggplant! LOL!

Thanks for the opportunity to win!

  3. I love the York Peppermint Patties shaped like bats! Why it so much more fun to eat when it is shaped like a bat, I’ll never know. My best Halloween costume was Wilma from the Flintstones. Kevin was Fred and Amelia was Pebbles. They were all handmade by me and we won a costume contest!

  4. I can’t open the pattern! What’s wrong?

  5. SO CUTE!!! I love them!!! Man. You are always making cute things! Well, I would have to say that my favorite Halloween candy IS the Candy Corn and my best costume would probably have to be when i was pippy long stockings! So fun! I put a wire hanger through my braids so they would stick out and some very colorful striped tights and a red shirt with a knee length jean jumper! so fun!

  6. Love the candy corn softies. But, I love the real candy corn more. In fact, that’s my favorite Halloween candy. My best costume was a witch (I know…So original, huh). But I make a great witch; I’m scary looking and I have a skinny, pointy nose.

  7. my hubby and i did a lot of practicing with downloading the pattern, but if it doesn’t work, please email me at princessjess3(at)yahoo.com and i’ll email you the pdf! Thanks! i love all the creative costumes you’ve had!

  8. Ooh, these are cute and they would be toddler safe! Love that!

My favorite candy is miniture chocolate candy bars. Really any kind as long as it’s chocolate, but I especially love twix.

My favorite costume is one my hubby came up with. We got huge bright orange t-shirts and drew a jack o lanturn on the front. We then stuffed it full of pillows/quilts. It was awesome! And to top it off we got green, brimmed beanies. We were huge and it was so fun!

  9. These are too cute, my girls would love them! My fav candy is reeses peanut butter cups and my ultimate favorite costume was when I dressed up as a bag of Jelly Belly’s (I stuffed a clear garbage bag full of those small colorful balloons and wore it).

  10. These are super cute! I think I may have to try these out with my beginner sewing skills. I, too, don’t care much for Halloween decorations, but these are cute, not scary, so they would be welcome in my home.

My favorite are the little packs of Whoppers.

My favorite costume was Steve Urkel from Family Matters. I was a 10-year-old white girl but with some suspenders and black face paint, I totally pulled it off!

  11. Super cute (and do-able!) Favorite candy – Twix, as long as they’re not melted, which can be hard on a Florida trick-or-treating night. Best costume – old houswife (face mask, shower cap, wooden spoon, bathrobe). I was about 20 when I wore it – thought about it again walking by the mirror the other day… 🙂

  12. Love those candy corns. I think my favorite candy has to be Reeses Peanut Butter cups. My mom always made our costumes. I remember I wanted to be a marti Gras lady with a ball gown. She made a beautiful purple satin type skirt and top from a princess gown pattern. We then made a belt out of gold coins and I had a green/yellow/purple boa and mask with peacock feathers. It was amazing. I remember being so proud of my costume as people would comment on how amazing it was. I hope I can do the same for our little girl when the time comes….I”m already in the process of making her shoes for her minnie mouse dress. 🙂

  13. My favorite halloween candy is probably mini snickers or the fun sized M&M’s….mmmm nummy. My best costume? Well I love the adventure every year of finding something new. I liked my flapper costume from 5th grade. Red flapper dress with feather headband. I just loved the way the fringes felt! So fun. BTW I love your creativity… It’s inspiring.

  14. So, so cute! I decorate for fall more than halloween – I don’t like the scary stuff, either. We’re having a little Halloween party for the preschool set this year, so these would be perfect decorations! 🙂

  15. i was just going to say… can’t i just pay you to make these for me if i win!? hehe… i love them! and my favorite halloween candy is CANDY CORN! i actually downed a bag in august…hehe. don’t hate me.

  16. Those are so cute! I love Snickers bars. 🙂

  17. My favorite candy has to be snickers bars! And my best costume was when I dressed up as a pirate three years ago. I made the costume myself and it turned out sooo good!

  18. caYUUUTE! As always! I want to win that fabric to make my very own!!! Okay, my fav halloween costume was when I was an Oreo Cookie, i made 2 cardboard cookies painted dark chocolate brown, and I wore white sweats underneath for the white stuff. The next year Jenni and Steph (little sis and bff) went as a double stuffed oreo! Both wearing the white sweats and the giant cookie. Double whammy. We were each so cute. Also, I loved dressing up as a leopard cub, it brought me good luck! I won a bike at the grocery store halloween games! My fav candy today is raisinettes.
I am a winner, i need these candy corns!

  19. my favorite costume was the year i made my son “sam i am” from green eggs and ham (incidentally, his name is sam, making his costume cuter) he had a bubble sign to hold up, and it just turned out really well! my favorite candy is those mini hershey bars. i don’t buy them, because they would be dangerous in my house! i love those candy corn pillows; too cute 🙂

  20. I love anything dark chocolate. Mmmmm. Other than that, I like taffy, or the flavored tootsie rolls. I have to make my Little Kim outfit this year, so I don’t have much time this month for cutting and sewing cute things, but probably enough time to stitch and stuff. ; ) Love the candy corns btw. Keep up the awesome work.

  21. As always, SIMPLY adorable! Fall has always been my favorite time of year, especially Halloween. I have always loved Snickers!! Yum-o! Last year, I dressed up as Flo, the Progressive insurance lady. It was super fun. Have a great Halloween season!

  22. Those stuffed candy corn are SOOO cute! I just cleaned up my craft room and pulled my sewing machine out of the closet, so I’d love this to be my first project in a long time.

My favorite Halloween candy is those bite sized Snickers. I don’t feel as guilty when I eat those tiny little candies…except I eat enough to equal a big bar!

My favorite costume was when my co-workers and I dressed up like flappers. We sewed our own mini-dresses with the rows of fringe, made headbands with the long feather, wore fish net stockings and boas. What fun! This year we are dressing as pink ladies from the movie Grease and we talked one of the guys into dressing as a T-bird.

    Donna 🙂

I love the candy corn decs! I hate the scary Halloween decorations. I scare easily too. In fact, I won’t go to haunted houses any more because I ripped the mask off of a warewolf the last time I went.

I have a sister who just left on an LDS mission to San Jose. Are you part of that area? She’s serving in Aptos right now.

Anyway, I’ll sure enter your contest! My favorite Halloween candy is Tootsie Rolls and my favorite costume was when I was a goth. People had a hard time recognizing who I was!

Cute site! I imagine that I will be back again… you seem like my kind a gal!

  37. Cute candy corn softies! My fave Halloween candy would probably be the Reese’s peanut butter pumpkins. As for the best costume, I am not sure…not very creative I guess…lol! One of my faves was being a 50’s girl!

  40. Very cute! My favorite halloween candies always used to be the bags of mixed hershey’s bars, regular milk chocolate, krackle and I forget what else. I think my favorite costume was scarlet o’hara because I LOVED the red dress with the hoop skirt.

My favorite candy is anything CHOCOLATE!

And favorite costumes? Are the home made unusual ones!

  47. LOL my mom LOVES candy corn & I don’t think she can have it anymore seeing as how she has to watch her diet. This would be cute to make her for her birthday which is 4 days before Halloween!! Best costume? I would have to say the FUNNIEST was when I wore a yellow-orange t-shirt, made up one of my eyes like I had a black eye. My name is Susan, so……I was a “black-eyed Susan”!!

  48. I feel dumb! I can’t seem to open the candy corn pattern. I even opened up an account on that website because I thought that was the problem and I still can’t. Is it still available??
