Sewing for Kindergarten-Hopscotch skirt & shirt

ย I sew for my kids pretty much year round, so pretty much: constantly. We all know this by now, hm? But it’s especially exciting to be making some new back-to-school clothes for my little Kindergartener! Sadie is LOVING school so far and she loves wearing her new school clothes, mixed with momma made, of course. (or else…*stern face*)

She is pretty great about loving most of the stuff I make, especially if she gets input. She actually didn’t give any with this outfit, but luckily loved the flowers on the top..hehe! phew. Anyways, I’m excited to show you this new outfit-created for Sewing Like Mad’s Sewing for Kindergarten series! Check it out, she’s got a lot of fun stuff going on, and not only for kinder aged kids!

ย So for my outfit, I made the whole she-bang from the Oliver and S Hopscotch pattern! I sewed up another Hopscotch tee– and finished the skirt I’d had cut out for a few weeks. I always say this, but I LOVE Oliver and S patterns. They force me to really take my time sewing, because the way the pattern directs you to sew; everything always ends up so lovely and professional looking. The top was another fantastic fit-I used this awesome fabric from Girl Charlee-it has amazing drape and is pretty sturdy jersey knit, too which I appreciate. I hate sewing with tissue thin knit.

I did skip the knit interfacing which the pattern suggests-I’ll be honest I was feelin’ a little lazy, plus I’ve never used it before and my tees hold up pretty well. I sewed up a 3T with a 4T length for my skinny minny.

I am in love with the pockets on this skirt! So quirky. They remind me of the pockets I did on my Project Run and Play cardi. The skirt was quite easy to put together, and I did adjust the elastic so that it wasn’t straining the button placket so much, don’t worry.

ย (I know. you were sooo worried)

It was just safety pinned in place during the photo shoot since I hadn’t had a chance to size it on Sadie. I used some buttery soft grey/blue chambray that I can’t remember where I got….I love the color and it was a dream to sew with. I used some creamy white buttons up the front-I think this skirt will get a lot of use! At least, I hope so-it can go with just about anything, and I think it’d be adorable over some colored tights. Sadie has some teal ones…oh the possibilities!

And just in case you think our photo shoots are full of fantastic modeling:

Burst that bubble, right?
