Little knit dresses for Ava-and a pattern in the works!

ย A few weeks ago I whipped up a few of these knit dresses-based on this shirt pattern I drafted last KCWC for Sadie. I made it for my littlest gal because she needed some summery clothes, but it works for any size! But oh my goodness, I can’t help but want to sew for her all the time these days-she’s learned how to sit up now and so pictures are so much more fun! How can I resist those chubby legs and arms? (and cheeks, and tummy….you get the picture)
Anyway-I’m in the midst of digitizing and grading it for another pattern! It always takes longer than I think because of various reasons, but I hope to have it out soon. Yay!

I made one version with this cute stripe (from…not sure actually. Probably Girl Charlee? Anyone know?) and some rib knit around the neck and cap sleeves.

Sorry…one more. Love this expression.

The second one I made with some amazing organic knit from Birch Fabrics’ Elk Grove line! This version I used FOE (fold over elastic) for the binding, which I love!

I hope I have some time to sew along with KCWC a little bit this week…wish me luck!

  1. I love this post. Would love the ceci shorts pattern and the sasha jumper dress pattern.

  2. It’s been a bit since I last read one of your blogs – and this little one looks new to me! Love her expressions, as well as the dresses, of course! Good to be back in touch: thanks to computers on the blink, it’s been difficult to blog etc. for a while. Fingers crossed, all will be OK from now on in.

  3. I love the deer print dress–sooo stinkin’ cute? Can I come to your house just to hug and squeeze that little cutie?? You are so lucky to have such a sweet little one to hold. I love the blue eyes–such a cutie pie!

  4. Good evening!. What a lovely little thing is Ava. Her cheeks remind me those of Miss C. What beautiful girls you have. Love!!

  10. Adorable! I love both dresses…but your model is the one who is stealing the show. She is precious….she probably would look cute no matter what you dress her in!

  15. Hi Jess! I love your blog and seeing all the cute little girl stuff you make (even though my little girl baby is now 16 and gave up mom-made several years ago! Maybe she’ll be back someday…)

I wondered how you stitched your FOE down–did you use your regular machine or do you use a coverstitch? I have been experimenting with FOE and mine does not look this nice! Yet!

    Happy summer! Stephannie [email protected]

  16. Love these tops! Especially the use of FOE. I always forget about that binding option.
Congrats on another pattern soon! I’d be super excited to test it for you!
