The chevron shirt (and a birdie one too)

The second Sadie saw this shirt she called it her zebra shirt. lol…I haven’t heard chevron described as that yet! This one is one of my faves of late…it came out just like I pictured, which is always exciting when it happens. I used this fabric for the top, and some coral knit for the bias tape. It’s really similar to the Playdate dress in construction, but the yoke is a bit more curved.

I used my walking foot to sew most of this top-I use that foot for about 95% of my sewing actually! It’s perfect for knits, since the feed dogs help move the stretchy fabric through evenly. With a ballpoint needle and a walking foot, you’re practically unstoppable when faced with some jersey.

Little Miss Sassypants has been on fire lately with her poses. She is getting a huge kick out of photo shoots lately for some reason. I haven’t even had to bribe her with anything….what is up with that?

This picture right here describes her perfectly right now. Soo into dancing and ballet, a bit of a show off, and full of energy!

More sassy pics. I love her so…..what a goofball. I made this one a dress, but it’s not as A-line as I wanted so it looks like a nightgown. I may chop it off to be a shirt. I used this fabric…aren’t the birdies so sweet? The binding fabric was a clearance Joanns find awhile ago.

And yes…there’s more tees a-coming.

  1. Classic poses from a gorgeous girl! Looks like she’s having a lot of fun, so no bribes needed. Wish my kids would stand still and not ask if I’ve finished when I haven’t even got my settings right!

    Pretty tops too!

  2. I love looking at your photos, they’re much more interested than bored looking models ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Love these…the pattern is perfect for an easy wear knit top…or five ;op. and her poses make me smile

  4. Love the zebra shirt! That print looks great with that cut/style of shirt. What I found funny is your comment about being “unstoppable” and underneath it is a picture of Sadie and her look says “YEEEAAAH, unstoppable!” She is such a (cute) ham!

  5. I love love LOVE the stripes! She’s so adorable! I haven’t had the gumption to try sewing with knits yet. But now I’m going to go back over your tutorials and give it a shot. Keep up the good work!

  6. I think the birdie fabric is my fav. But then again who doesn’t love zebras? ๐Ÿ˜‰

  7. I could look at a million photos of Sadie posing. So awesome. ๐Ÿ™‚ Cute tops too – they’ll get lots of use from her sisters, too!

  8. I don’t even like zig-zags, but that shirt is adorable. =) Love the birdie version too.

  9. love the pattern! and about the zebra, when I see chevron fabric I remember zebras too, mostly because in the film Madagascar the zebra recognizes it in the shirt of a woman
I found a clip on you tube with the scene, but it’s in italian

  10. OK, I’m almost afraid to post my idea on this, because you are just the coolest of the cool with all your creations, and I’m just a wee little nobody. ๐Ÿ™‚ But… I have to say I did think “pajamas” when I saw the cute birdie dress. My thought was, what if you added two round pockets, gathered at the top, with the same bias trim on the top edge? I think that’d look so adorable, and maybe more dress-like. Just an idea….

I always love your stellar creations and the spunky Miss S modeling. And I will forever see zebras now in all the b/w chevrons I encounter. ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. What about adding round pockets (gathered with matching bias trim at the top edge) on that cute birdie dress? Might help it look more dress-like…

I always enjoy your stellar creations and the spunky Miss S. And I will now forever see zebras in my b/w chevron encounters. ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. Your daughter is seriously THE CUTSET EEEVER!! She has the prettiest most lovely head of hair ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m sorry to bother you, but did you use a pattern for this shirt? If so, where is it from? Thanks! Love your work!
