something kinda different Maypole Carousel giveaway

I've mentioned my parents' new woodworking/crafty company a few times I think, so I am excited to have them back for another giveaway! This time they are giving away a wooden Maypole carousel-the original set (with horses) and an add-on Easter module, complete with adorable bunnies and eggs. (which can be painted different colors as well, or left plain....just let them know!)

My girls LOVE spinning these around-so do all the other kiddos who come over when we host play dates and such. There's something nice and calming about watching it spin around. ;) They have a video on their site that shows how it works.

They also have some other adorable modules (they're super easy to switch out for different holidays)...Christmas, and circus animals. (which would be adorable in a little boy's nursery!)

Also, they've added wooden scissors to their shop, so if you were hankering after my set of shears, you can now get yourself a pair! Sah weet.

Charlotte's Easter dress

I know I promised Sadie's quilt later this week, but it'll have to be next week, since I have Charlotte's Easter dress to show you today!

Yes, I did edit out her scar on her forehead-didn't want to distract. :)

The multiple buttons on the back were kind of a mistake-but kind of a fun one!

She had to pose with her baby doll! What a little momma. :)

I'll have the tutorial for you next week!

Sadie's Easter dress

I had other plans for the girls Easter dresses, but once I stumbled across this gorgeous vintage sheet at the thrift store last week, I knew it would be perfect for their Easter dresses!

Plus I knew I wouldn't run out of fabric...sheets are never ending sources of fabric, it seems.

I made it by using a scoop of my Rachel wrap shirt tutorial mixed with a dash of the Ric Rac dress tutorial, plus a teaspoon of the Shabby Apple knock off dress. I can put them together for you if you want, for a little tute. Any takers?

I also added a little tie around the middle. Now that I'm looking at these pics, the fabric is a bit busy-oh well...Sadie still loves it. At least, she'd better.

Next up: a dress for little C!

Oh did you notice? She got them on the right feet!

Sadie's work of art

What do you think of Sadie's new lovely artwork ? It has some of my favorite song lyrics on it, and I got it from my sponsor, 13 Pumpkins.

I am so happy with the quality of the sign-it's handmade from wood (obviously), and the letters are painted, not vinyl, which is nice cause I'm always worried Sadie will start peeling off her flower vinyl decals out of boredom someday. ;)

I also kind of love that the lyrics talk about "words" and it's hanging above her bookshelves! lol I'm a dork.

Also, all those books but one are thrifted. :)

More peeks at her room, including her new quilt, later this week!

Happy Hunger Games!

EEEEEESHK! (that's my uber-nerdy, excited sound, by the way) I can't wait to see The Hunger Games tonight (ok, early tomorrow morning...midnight showing), after months of waiting. I of course, had to make some cookies to mark the occasion. ;) I was inspired by these cookies...they are fantastic!

I did my mockingjays with royal icing by tracing over an image I printed out, with some wax paper over it. Just let them dry overnight and they peeled right off! I am so doing this again soon, it worked great!

Geez. I am so excited you have no idea! (NERD!)

Oh, and that I heart Peeta cookie is mine.

the Peaches and Cream dress tutorial

Ok. The lamest blogger award goes to.....ME. I asked for your help naming this dress over on facebook awhile ago...(like, I'm embarrassed to check how long)...and I'm just now posting it. Other things got in the way, not to mention some procrastination on writing the tutorial, so anyways. Enough excuses...here it is! The Peaches and Cream dress!

(some other suggestions! I loved them!)

Here's how I made it!

dresses for girls

Hey gals, today I wanted to let you know about a wonderful lady named Magaret Andrade. She has been working with a local school sewing group and friends of hers, to make and donate dresses to send to girls all over the world....who have almost no clothing at all.

Can you imagine? Sadie could not wrap her mind around it when I told her I was making them for little girl who had no dresses. She was happy to let them go once I explained how excited they would be to see their new dresses. Part of me was imagining those cute grins...and hoping these would go to a pair of sisters. :)

Margaret has a simple goal of donating 50 dresses (and she's paying for the international shipping to get them sent off!)...and she needs some help to meet that goal. If you'd like to get involved, you can contact her at:
margaretandrade@hotmail.com

Pillowcase dresses are so ridiculously easy to make, these took me about 2 hours-and it was a great Sunday activity-although service feels good any day of the week! I know I have lots more fabric that could stand to be used for a good cause. ;)

p.s. the fabric is Joel Dewberry's Blockprint in Fuschia and Amber, from Lily Bella Fabrics.

p.p.s. I didn't use a specific tutorial for these dresses-just do a search for pillowcase dress tutorial and you should be able to find a plethora of them! (that's the reason I didn't make a tute, lol!)

guest post for Ribbon Retreat

Hey guys, check out the new tutorial I did for the Ribbon Retreat blog! I had so much fun making this easy little slip on sundress, and the fabric is making me wish so hard that spring would just get here already!

I guess this will have to do!

Gingercake's Penguin Pillow review

***See the winner of the Shwin Designs pattern giveaway here!***

I made Charlotte a pretty flippin' cute penguin pillow the other day...and I think it's safe to say she's in love....you'll see. ;) I used this lovely pattern from my sponsor, Gingercake Patterns and Design.

The flannel I got from Joann's-they had it on sale a few weeks back for $2 a yard-love that kind of a deal! Sadie called dibs when she saw me sewing it up, and when I told her it was for Charlotte she didn't like that. Seeing as her bed is full of mommy-made softies, I think Miss C deserves one of her own! (Speaking of Sadie's bed, I finally finished her quilt! pics to come soon!)

I think she agrees! She loved pointing out the penguin's nose! (You can kinda see where her scar is going to be too...darn)

The pattern was very well written and a quick sew-I think I had it finished in less than 2 hours, start to finish. I love how the darts add shape to the head and cute little bottom, too!

 HUG!

She was one happy girl! :D
