bicycle class picnic blouse

Confession: I had never sewn with an Oliver and S pattern before this top.

I know, I know! And I called myself a sewing blogger! lol. I have copied their looks a few times, but after having used one of their patterns, I am a convert.

Another confession: Get ready for a slew of Oliver and S projects because I am now obsessed.

I made a class picnic blouse for Sadie, and love how it turned out! (partially because of that fabric! We both fell in love with it so I had to get some when it was on sale a little while ago. It’s some organic cotton from Fabricworm!)

I cut out a size 3T, which was a little bit big on my teeny bean pole, but I was glad, since it’ll fit her longer. The sleeves can always be shortened if needed in the spring, too! I had some vintage piping so I added that in below the back and front yokes. (I may or may not be addicted to piping lately)

I learned a few new things along the way and even with ripping out a seam twice (my bad), it only took about 2 hours or so. One tip, if you decide to put piping in the yoke seams, don’t do it when you sew the wrong side of the shirt piece to the right side of the yoke facing. (ask me how I know lol) Slip it in when you top stitch the front yoke to the shirt piece.

Plus she loves it! Score.

  15. I love O&S…and the fabric is Birch organic cotton. It looks like it is a past collection one, “Avalon”.
I bought a bit of “Commuter” fabric and wrecked it (serged two holes into it while making a peasant skirt for myself now I have to find another project for the intact part).

That top is sooo cute as is the model.

  16. You can tell she loves it by how willing she is to pose for you! Adorable.

  17. Gorgeous fabric – your model looks like she is having a ball 😀

    xx

  18. I used an O&S pattern for the first time a few weeks ago (been sewing seriously for 10 years), and couldn’t believe that I hadn’t tried it before either. I think it was the frugal side of me choking on the $15 price tag. But I’ve already made 2 shirts and skirt, with plans for more, and I rarely find a pattern I want to reuse. So it was worth it!

  19. Hola!Hermoso el diseño y la tela!!!!

  20. I LOVE HER POSES!! she is such a ham 🙂

  21. I LOOOVE the fabric Jess, perfect top to work with it. I would wear it myself! Hope all is well with baby and that she’s on her way!

  22. Oh my, a dreamy top!
