It’s always fun making useful but cute things for babies, right? I’ve always had summer babies until now so I never thought a car seat canopy would get much use before (I bet it would have, though, at least to keep it dark when baby was sleeping)…but this time I figured November can be chilly, even here in Cali, and it might help keep strangers from wanting to touch baby during flu season.
So I *whipped up a car seat canopy (using this tutorial, I changed the size of the canopy and the strap size a little bit, and left off the bows, otherwise followed it closely) the other night using some gorgeous fabric and ric rac! The outside fabric is Turquoise Chic Wallflower from the Hope Chest line, and the inside fabric is Pink Stripe from the Marguerite line…ric rac is jumbo white, all from my fab sponsor the Ribbon Retreat! My handle fabric is made from some nursery scraps-from the Mod Basics line at Fabricworm.
*sarcasm alert. This “easy” project totally wiped out my preggo body…my back was aching and it probably took twice as long as it would have if I wasn’t heaving my enormous belly around every time I ironed something. Just keepin’ it real. 😉
I do love how it turned out though, and the colors totally match the nursery! I told you, I have a thing for coral, teal, and yellow right now. It’s kind of a sickness.

And on a side note, thanks for your honest comment about sewing while pregnant. I’m 28 weeks along and last week sewed some blackout panels for our girls’ bedroom which required lots of cutting and getting up and down from the floor. You know, a “simple” hour long project at best. That evening and the next day (and if I’m being honest, the day after that) I felt like I’d been hit by a truck. So I guess I’m saying, thanks for helping me feel better about where I’m at and what I can do. And I feel your pain 🙂
