Tada! I present to you: the baby's new quilt. With some help from my Facebook peeps I decided on a herringbone quilt design, and I love how it turned out! I saw the idea here, and there is a pattern for it, but as usual, I thoroughly winged it. I have only followed a quilt pattern....er pretty much never...I'm a rebel what can I say? (the lamest rebel in the history of rebels, but oh well)
The fabric is all from the Mod Basics organic line, from my sponsor Fabricworm. It is so, so soft. Love the colors too, they were perfect for the nursery!
I backed it in the Birdie Spokes in Coral, and as you can tell, I stink at basting together quilt layers. I'm hoping a good wash will hide some of the worst parts. Again with the rebel quilter tendencies...I just didn't want to fix it. (ok so maybe it's more lazy pregnant lady tendencies....)
So I did use a herringbone tutorial-this one is great! I cut my pieces at a bit more of an angle than she did, and threw in some white sashing, but otherwise followed the tutorial pretty closely.

Love it! And as much as you might hate it...it's very reassuring to me (an amateur sewer) to know that even super sewers don't get it all perfect every time (ie the basting!) I made some summer quilts for my girls, 3 & 1. They were both a bit wonky and it annoyed the life out of me at first til I put them on their beds, now I LOVE them and their uniqueness! :-)
I think it came out fabulous! Quilting is such a time consuming labor of love, your little ones will have this forever. A true gift! I don't think the basting came out bad, I have the same thing happen to me whenever I try to quilt. Unless you have the patience to do it all by hand, it is hard to get it otherwise. I think it looks gorgeous. Well done Jess!!! Love the pattern too!

Like you, I wing quilts too. My favorite is blocks that don't line up;p. I kinda like odd pinches and tucks. And I like that yours is topstitched in something other than that rambling pattern. Sweet quilt-your daughter will love it.

Beautiful! I want to make a quilt for my little one, but I feel like a complete underachiever in terms of what I've managed to make thus far in my pregnancy. I will be making the hot air balloon mobile using your tutorial....so perhaps I'll get around to a quilt after that! :)

Hey Jess, how's the pregnancy? Feeling ok? The quilt is beautiful. Let us know how you're doing! I'm 26 weeks pregnant now and I couldn't imagine having the energy to sew a quilt. I did however make a couple of those cute elephant softies you posted a while back.

I think this would be a popular quilt if I make it look like corn stalks (make the middles yellow and the diagonals be green with a sky blue backing)... going in my to-do pile!!!

Such an adorable quilt! I actually just picked out fabric from the same line! i was wondering how much yardage of the white you added and if you still used all 6 fat quarters of the patterned fabric like the tutorial says. also what was the final dimensions of your quilt! I can't wait to make this for my baby girl!

I LOVE this quilt! I just found out that we're having a little girl and I am going to be adventurous and wanted to try and make this quilt. There were a few questions from March that I am also asking - how much yardage you used of the printed fabric and sashing along with the dimentions. I've never made a quilt before - what do you put in the middle of the two sides.
