rolled felt flowers

While on my latest felt flower making kick, I also made these easy rolled flowers.

Cut a long strip of felt, I prefer wool felt (my strips were about 18" long and 2" wide) then fold over and glue lengthwise...just along the edge.

Then cut little slits however wide you like, and end them about 3/8" from the bottom. (notice my awesome new scissors? The nice folks at Olfa sent them to me...and they are fantastic for this kind of project!)

Also, cutting closer to the bottom helps the flower lay flatter.

Then start rolling and gluing along the bottom edge.

Add a couple of felt leaves and you've got a cute flower for a headband, clip, or brooch!

Tip: try cutting the slits at an angle for a different look!

felt flowers-easy layered flower tutorial

Get ready for some felt flowers this week! I had a blast making a bunch the other day and made a few tutorials for them, they're simple stuff, but so quick and fun to make.

Today I'll show you how I made these easy layered flowers. First I cut out a bunch of flowers from wool felt, using my Go Baby! Rose of Sharon die.

You could easily cut out floral shapes by hand though!

Then fold in half, and dab a little hot glue in the middle, let it cool.

Fold in half again and dab some more glue!

I usually used 5-6 of the same size flowers for each one, plus a few smaller flowers to fill in the center.

So then glue down the quartered flowers like so.

Then glue one more quartered flower in the middle.

These needed some more to fill in the middle, so I quartered some smaller flowers...

and plopped them down in the middle! (using glue of course, haha)

Add a circle of the same color felt on the back of headbands to make it look nice and neat.

They look so cute on headbands, clips, brooches...car antennae....haha almost gotcha, huh.

They are adorable in miniature size!

More tutorials this week!

outfit a day

Yes, I know my backdrop is boring but I don't have much else to work with, sorry folks!

So these outfit posts might be slowing down, at least not as often or as many...I'm getting kinda burned out and so is Rory/Sadie...lol! So I'll still post outfits, just maybe not from every day of every week...I don't know how those fashion bloggers do it!

I look like I was gearing up to be a Miss Sassypants in this pic above. My lovely Momma took them for me, and I can't help but get sassy around my parents...we all get a kick out of it.

At least, I think they do...

Top: thrifted-$2
Tank: Downeast-$10
Cardigan: thrifted-$5
 Jeans: gift from sis-$10
Earrings: Made by me-$3
Shoes: Payless-$10
Necklace: Etsy-$16

Total: $66

These shoes are like wannabee Tom's, only cheaper. They're really comfy, only the same color as some of my jeans, so I can only wear them with dark jeans. Woe is me.

So I think I've perfected the "looking down at my shoes" pose. Maybe I should practice my ninja moves? My mom took these outfit shots for me, thanks Mom! I got to go birthday shopping for myself today-I got myself 3 shirts, a dress, a belt, and a pair of tights for $50! It's no thrifting trip, but I sure scored on the clearance rack.

Top: Downeast-$10
Tank: Downeast-$10
Cardigan: Old Navy-don't remember how much...probably $15?
Jeans: Old Navy-$25
Boots: Old Navy-$25 (I am a walking Old Navy ad today!)
Necklace: Forever 21-$5
Earrings: made by me-$1

Total: $91

This morning I stripped down Charlotte for her bath, and she proceeded to tinkle on the bathroom mat, while acting like nothing was going on. It was the look on her face that made me laugh out loud (yeah I spelled it out booyah) for like 5 minutes! Luckily she was going straight into the bath and the mat was going straight into the wash. Seriously...still chuckling about it now. lol...

Top: Kohls-$7
Shirt: Downeast-$10
Jeans: Ross-$12
Shoes: Old Navy-$10
Cardigan: Target-$15
Earrings: vintage, gifted-$0 (thanks Cassy!)
Necklace-Forever 21-$3

Total: $57

Today's outfit is kind of like yesterday's-with a color swap. Grey cardigan swapped for a grey top...and green top swapped for a green cardi. I made the top with this tutorial-it was a quick sew and fun to make! It is a bit boxy but I didn't feel like taking in the back at all. I'll just wear it with a cardi most of the time I'm sure.

This is my favorite outfit of the week!

Top: made by me-$8 in materials
Tank: Downeast-$10
Jeans: Ross-$12 (yes I realize I wear these constantly. I promise I wash them, and I defend their honor since they are so comfortable)
Boots: Old Navy-$25
Earrings-Forever 21-$4

Total: $59

Hellooo winter white arms.

Close up of my ear anyone? How else to show you the earring goods?

I big old heart the tie on this shirt.

"Let's try a look of far off wonderment." (name that TV show quote)

Did I nail it?

Or do I just look like a dork?

Don't answer that.

Top: Kohls-$10
Tank: Downeast-$10
Jeans: Ross-$10
Cardigan: thrifted-$5
Shoes: Old Navy-$10
Necklace: vintage, Etsy-$6

Total: $51

I love this vintage cameo necklace! It has so many colors in it to pair with tops and cardis.

Happy almost birthday to me! I wore two of my birthday presents from Rory today-the top and cardi, both from Downeast (both on sale!).

Top: Downeast-$20
Tank:  Downeast-$10
Cardigan: Downeast-$24
Jeans:gift from sis-$0
Boots: Old Navy-$25
Earrrings: c/o Seed & Sky

Total: $79 (although technically the top and cardi shouldn't totally count since they were gifts too, right? ok maybe not)

This outfit is almost totally thrifted! Love that.

Top: thrifted-$4
Undertop: Downeast-$10
Skirt-thrifted-$3
Belt: thrifted-$3
Shoes: don't even know so they don't count, lol!
Earrings: Forever 21-$3

Total: $23

This silk top is oh so comfortable! It drapes so nicely too!

I kept it simple with the jewelry...

...and this is an outtake of me explaining to Rory to get more torso shots of the shirt. Either that or I was doing some kind of weird interpretive dance. I'll let you decide.

Jo Totes camera bag giveaway!

***This giveaway is now closed***

Are you going out into the Black Friday madness? I am...though not in the wee hours of the morning, I'm not that crazy...now onto the finale of my birthday giveaway week!

The lovely folks over at Jo Totes (camera bags for ladies!) sent me this gorgeous camera bag-the Betsy in mustard to be exact. If you feel like you're seeing double, it's because me and Kate are now camera bag twins. ;) She's ok with me totally copying her, at least...I hope so.

I really am in love with this bag-and have used it a bunch this week, doing some pictures for my parents...running around town with it is so much easier -and cuter-than my old (ugly) bag. The padding is thick and secure. The pockets are endless...including one in the flap-how cool is that? Seriously cool, that's what. It has removable and adjustable straps and separators....and the grey lining is perfect with that gorgeous mustard.

The thing I really like about it, that they point out on their website, is that it doesn't LOOK like a camera bag. So skeazy people won't know you're carrying around expensive equipment in your cute leather bag. Unless, of course they read this blog, and then I just have to say stop stealing cameras, please?

Even Charlotte had to try Betsy out, they look cute together, huh?

So hooray! Jo Totes is generously giving away one of their lovely camera bags to a lucky CINO reader!

Check out some of their other gorgeous designs and colors below! (click on picture to see the bag!)

How to enter (leave one comment for each way)
