S’s Christmas dress

So yes, the girls dresses are a lot alike this year. They are both also pretty simple. I had no brain functionality to get anything else done, forgive me. Hopefully my clothing design part of the brain switches back on after the new year!
Sadie’s dress has a simple pleated bow around the neckline.

She really likes this dress-I pretty much had to pry it off of her body, she wanted to wear it until Christmas. Yeah, that would have ended well.ย

…and the girls together! awww.
Here’s how I made the bow….tie. (har har)

I cut two long strips 3″ wide.

Then folded them in half lengthwise and sewed diagonally down one end, then continued sewing down one side.

Turn the strips right side out (I use a chopstick to turn them), and press with an iron.

Then I tied a bow with the ends to figure out where to place it.

Then I pleated the strip around the neckline, pinning each pleat down.

It looked like this. ta dar

Then I sewed down the middle of the pleats, and made sure to back stitch securely a little ways away from the bow. Then you’re done! (with that part. I used the Charlotte dress tutorial for this one also!)

  1. As much as I love this dress, I love that she has her shoes on the wrong feet even more…she’s such a cutie!!

  2. The dresses are darling. Your girls are too. Have a very merry Christmas!

  3. I, too, noticed her shoes were on the wrong feet! Precious anyway. I work with 20 four-year-olds and see shoes on the wrong feet all the time. ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Adorable. Doesn’t it make you feel good that she loves the dress. Great job. Merry Christmas.

  5. The pleats are so fun. ๐Ÿ™‚ Love how the dresses aren’t identical.

  12. My mother is a professional seamstress and used to work for clothing manufacturers. We used chopsticks to turn the small beltlike pieces just as you did. Brought back memories.

  13. Oh, my goodness, I love Sadie’s hair in the picture just after the tutorial pics. She is looking sideways so you can’t see her face and her hair is so gorgeous the way it falls behind her back. What a cutie. Makes me wish my girls were little again! And the dresses are amazing.

  14. These sisters look just darling together! I love coordinated Christmas dresses–so merry!

  15. What a cute idea!! I love it it so nice!!!!
