Sadie’s new (future) coat

I made a coat for Sadie yesterday. (she doesn’t look too happy about it, huh?…you’ll see)

It was muy, muy grande.

I cut out the 3T/4T size, and I guess my petite gal is not quite there yet. Look at her though….she’s so forlorn, mourning her coat-she-cannot-wear-yet.

However there are some silver linings.

1. It will fit next year….(hopefully)

2. I have a smaller size cut out already that I didn’t sew up last year. (cutting out patterns is the pits!)

3. I have time to find 4 matching buttons, cause really, it needs more buttons.

For now, we’ll enjoy seeing this cute print hanging up on the wall in my sewing room, taunting me.

Til then, lovely coat!

  1. hehe, I have done the same thing! But they always grow into them. ๐Ÿ™‚ It does look very lovley even though it is a wee bit to big.

  2. Its a lovely coat, and better too big than too small!

  3. LOL, my mum always went down the ‘you’ll grow into it’ route rather than getting things that fit then. Right enough, I grew like a weed, she may have had a point!

  4. That *is* lovely ! I always do the same thing with clothes for Julia (and now Asher) – but I do it a little bit on purpose. If I’m going to put the effort into it, I want the clothes to last a while! So I make them a size big. I’ve never had anything come out quite *that* huge for the current size, thoughโ€ฆ It’ll be a beautiful coat for her to wear next year! xo

  5. I swear kid patterns always run big!!

  6. haha, muy grande indeed! but still gorgeous

  7. The good news is you didn’t make it too small! Guaranteed, it will fit sometime in the future. Hopefully Charlotte can wear it too. ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. Oh, it’s such a gorgeous little coat…it’s going to look fabulous on her next year ๐Ÿ™‚
And, yes, cutting out patterns is the pitts!

  9. She is adorable, and the coat is super cute too! I love that she is wearing flip flops with her coat. Oh, I miss the weather there. I love seeing your cute outfits too!

  16. Oh, it’s so cute!! I want one…for me!!

  17. What a cute pattern. I just checked out some of their other patterns, and I see a purchase in my future ๐Ÿ™‚ The coat is adorable, and it will be perfect next year.

  18. Oh it’s so cute!!!! I love it with the buttons and the fun fabric. I made Ansley a size 3 coat (she’s 2 1/2 but wears anywhere between a size 2 and a size 4) and it’s a little big. I’m glad she’ll be able to wear it longer, rather than not at all. ๐Ÿ™‚

  19. That is SO cute! Beautiful! Better that it’s a bit too big than too small (which has happened to me, sadly). ๐Ÿ™‚

  20. it’s beautiful! i see why you’re bummed – i’m always nervous about making things too big and having them sit in their closets, too. i made a 3T heidi & finn urban unisex hoodie and ended up shortening the arms and chopping 1″ off the bottom to make it fit it now because i’m impatient! they might run a tad big in general, but my 3YO is petite, too.

  21. Haha, super cute. I’m so glad when I’m not the only one who makes stuff that just doesn’t work out. ๐Ÿ™‚

  22. Oh my goodness, that scowl is to die for! She’ll be having fun in it next year. And I love the outfit you are wearing in the post below. The one with the tiny flower print and sweet flower earrings. Gorgeous. These outfits are great to post about. I look forward to the ideas.

  23. I absolutely love the coat and the look on her face, priceless! You really can tell how bummed out she is that she can’t wear it! Kids right?!! Since your ‘Craftiness is not optional’, have you found any good patterns or come up with one that is this same idea but for adults. I need a good going to town and church coat but want something that is one of a kind. I have been looking for a pattern but can not find one.

  24. reminds me of the Halloween costume I worked so hard to sew last year. All it needs is the zipper sewn in. I need to see if it will fit this year to buy the red glittery shoes…. if not she will be a cheerleader again. She is adorable in the Yellow coat!

  25. It looks great though! I have the same pattern just haven’t tried it yet, how was it to follow? I love how you did the buttons! Great job!

  26. It looks gorgeous even if it is too big. Where is the pattern from?

  27. Un poco muy muy grande si, pero crecen pronto ;P
    But it’s gorgeous!!!
