A-line ruffle dress

Birthday party season is in full swing-and I couldn’t help but sew up another dress for another little birthday girl we know. It’s fun to play around with dresses, but this time I went pretty simple with an A-line dress, flutter sleeves, and a ruffle down the front. (inv. zipper in back)
Sadie donned it for a quick modeling session, what a good helper! (yes I finished this two hours before the party…lol!)
I love the bright and cheerful pattern on the fabric, the main fabric is Clothworks Mostek Avalon in Folk Floral.  The pink knit was a remnant from Joann’s I’ve had for awhile.
and OF course a quick matching hair bow was in order.

Hope her mom the birthday girl liked it! hehe. (we also picked out some rad sunglasses and coloring books as to appease her toddler palette)

  1. Adorable!

  2. Love the colors of the fabrics (and combo of the fabrics) and the pictures. Maybe this is the next sew along? 🙂

  3. wowza!!! Your fabric stash must be incredible!!! I definitely don’t find anything like that at my local JoAnn’s or Hobby Lobby. I have to pinch my pennies for that gorgeous Amy Butler/Michael Miller designer fabric. Wowza. Where do you buy your fabric from? Do you buy big amounts at one time?

  4. a lovely dress for an adorable little girl.

  5. LOVE it!!

  6. What a lucky little birthday girl!

  7. It’s my birthday in July you know… : ) Another beautiful creation. Just a quick note to say that your blog is so inspiring and I am in awe of your talent. Thank you for sharing it (and your cool designs like the bapron) with us!

  8. Just found your blog for the first time and I am overwhelmed with cuteness! First, LOVE LOVE LVOE your header–so stinkin cute with the machine, banner, and the lines slightly askew. Second, I have the sewing bug…my mom is a seamstress, I’ve had a machine for YEARS, but until recently have been afraid of sewing. I am so excited to jump into your blog!

  9. did you use a pattern for this? I love it and I’m trying to make my 3 year old cousin a dress but I can’t find a pattern I like.

  10. Super cute Jess! Is there gonna be a tutorial for this soon?

  11. I love that purple floral fabric! It looks so cute with the pink polka dot fabric. That giant ruffle is awesome!

  12. How on earth did I miss this post? (And the 3 above it?) Oh, I know, because I was back in Olivia’s room madly putting price tags on everything we own. My how that has taken over my life…

Anyway, this dress is ADORABLE! And so are the Anna dresses. Super, super cute. Especially love that 50’s housewife version.

Seriously, Jess, if you would make patterns to sell (like that went from 12mo to 5T or something) I would totally buy them. I almost thought about making you bring your patterns out here with you so I could copy them. Haha.

Best of luck on the flight!
