fabric soft pretzel tutorial

Beth from Project: Project is doing a play food/kitchen week! How fun! She asked me if I would do a play food tutorial, and you know I can’t resist play food. So here’s my project!
Soft Pretzels!
Delicious hot soft pretzels are the best.
These are neither hot nor delicious, but they are soft, and squishy and fun to play with. :}
Click below for more details!

You’ll need:

brown or tan fabric- 1/4 yard would be enough for 6 pretzels
poly fil
thread
rotary cutter and mat are helpful
sewing stuff (machine, pins, scissors)
First cut one piece of fabric selvage to selvage, 2.5″ wide.
Fold in half lengthwise (do not press with iron), pin, and sew down the side with about 1/4″ seam. Cut this piece in half.
Then on one end of each tube, sew the end shut.
Turn right side out with a chopstick or turning thingy by pushing in the sewn shut end.
Stuff with poly fil-not too full..make sure it’s slightly squishy. Leave about 1″ un stuffed at the end.
Fold under the edge like so.. ignore my scaly lizard hands, please. ๐Ÿ˜‰
Slip stitch shut.
Twist into a pretzel shape. (I admit, I googled the word “pretzel” to see how to do it, hehe)
Sew the twists together at the ends, using a slip stitch around where they touch.
like so…
Then add some “salt” puff paint if you like! All done. Now I’m craving a soft pretzel like nothing else. YUmm!!

  10. Thanks so much for doing this! I just love these. What a quick project. I’m trying to think of other “tubular” foods that I can use this idea for.
