little "quilt"

I made this little “quilt” for my serger the other day. My thinking is that it hopefully will help muffle the noisiness of the serger when I really get ‘er rip. (Since I usually sew during kiddos sleepy time.)
This fabric makes me smile every. single. time. I see it! Gorgeous, huh? It’s Amy Butler’s Peacock Feathers (in sea glass) from her Soul Blossoms line.ย  I got a fat quarter of it to see how the colors were in real life (it looked a bit bright online), and they are gorgeous! They are bright, but not neon by any means. I want a whole bolt of this stuff!
I could re upholster my computer chair, make pillows, curtains, bags, hang it on the ceiling just to stare at while I fall asleep…
Here’s an establishing shot. This is where I serge. and that over there on the left is where I sew. and that on the right is my pile of stuff to fix/start. That pile has been around for awhile.
This is my set-up, pre cute quilt. AHHHHHH! not as cute, huh. Some folded up, thread-covered felt just doesn’t have the same effect as….
….Amy Butler….I’m in love! (with the fabric, not Amy, but I’m sure she’s nice and all)
It even coordinates with my dial thingy bobs!

  1. hi there- what a pretty blog. I am a new follower from weekend wanderer.. would love a follow back too.. love he layout and design.. very pretty and airy.

  2. The dials matching the fabric is what would get me excited–I’m such a goober about little things like that ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Haha. Always important to match the thingy bobs. (No, really.) It’s super cute. And far superior to the black thread-covered felt. ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. You’ll have to let us know if it helps with the noise. The lil’ quilt is lovely.

  5. So funny – that was my first thought, how it coordinated with your machine! Very cute ๐Ÿ™‚ – did it help with the sound at all? Curious because I might consider making one too if that is the case!

  6. That is beautiful! I love the colors in that fabric and it really brightens up your room!

I am so jealous of the natural light you get in your sewing room! I have to go into the basement to sew and boy is it not the best light to sew by ..ever! My husband put up extra lighting but it is still not my favorite spot! Enjoy the beautiful colors every time you use your serger! I may have to ask you some questions about it once I get started because I just got that exact same serger yesterday!

  7. What a cute little quilt. I was wondering how long have you had your serger? Do you like it? Is it hard to thread? I am in desperate need of one, but my mom said a lot of them are hard to thread?!?!? Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. Beautiful! And my OCD personality LOVES that it matches your dials! ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. LOVE this Jess! I need 3 for under all of my machines, I am so afraid they are going to ruin my new table top. Adorable!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. Oh how very pretty!!!

  11. Doing this today. Seriously. I love it!

  12. I love it! That print is amazing!

  13. what a great idea, and i love the fabric!

  14. definately an improvement. so cute. did you plan it to coordinate with your serger?

  15. Courtney…not all sergers are tricky to thread. I have a Babylock and it is a breeze. It has a puff threader. Don’t want the puffer thingy to EVER break on me!

Jess…love the SPACE and light you have to sew in & by…green with envy here. BUT love the print, and do let us know if it muffles the noise. I could use one for my Silhouette. Does it get hot under the machine?

  16. Lovely! It does look so cute with your dial thingy bobs ๐Ÿ™‚

  17. That looks great! I love the colors, so bright and cheery!

  18. I’m cracking up @ “dial thingy bobs”. I nominated you for a Stylish Blogger Award at Eat. Sleep. Create.

    Love โ™ฅ your blog!

  19. Not even think about matching dial thingy bobs, but your quilt really matchs them
I always want to buy Amy Butler’s Soul Blossoms, but it is pricey (for me) and a little bit too bright. I’m glad that there’s (finally) someone who said it that it is not too bright as neon

  20. I know exactly what you mean about the noise, I used to have a similar table to those in your sewing room, and the table would BOUNCE when I would sew with my old monster Janome machine, so we got a 20$ solid desk from Value Village and I wouldn’t replace it for the world.

  21. Ok, seriously? the fact that the fabric matches your dials just slays me. Beyond love. Beyond.

My little Janome has a suction cup or two on the bottom that helps keep it on the table nicely. It’s still super loud though! RAWR. It makes me feel powerful.

  22. I love it! Your serger is going to be so much happier now ๐Ÿ™‚

  23. Hey, I recognize that bias tape… ๐Ÿ™‚

  24. I have that exact same “fix-it” pile sitting also to the right of my sewing machine. It’s just no fun to work on repairs when you can make new cute stuff!

  25. I have the same serger and boy does it go crazy and it goes fast! The whole table shakes!! I love the little quilt, I should try that!

  26. It looks fab but what is a serger? is it like overlocking? I guess that its a different expression for it?

Great crafting room and thanks for sharing too
