new yellow skirt

I fell in love with this fabric (Always in Bloom by RJR Fabrics), and had to get me some. I found it at a little general store on our way home a few weeks ago from a women's retreat for church. Random, huh? It was only $4/yard too! Nice!

So I decided to go for a skirt-you've seen this style of skirt floating around the blogs, right? It has a waistband and cute tie, with a gathered skirt. I hand sewed the invisible hem. My first time doing that, and it looks soo much better than sewing it on the machine! I always made my mom do it when I sewed skirts as a teen. lol, sorry Mom.

Sorry about only the one picture. It's a little hard to get good shots using the timer. And please pardon the book/toys. A momma's life, huh?

kids clothes week-pillowcase dresses

No, you're not seeing double. ;) And yes, I made the girls the exact. same. dress. I am aware of that. I just can't help it. and I really love the ribbon bow on the shoulder! They're just simple pillowcase dresses-I mostly used this tutorial-but my own hacked up pattern.

I love the fabric! I got it on sale-$4 a yard-and I made both dresses with one yard-so they were really inexpensive dresses! I had to buy ribbon-but didn't use all of the spool.

I love Charlotte's little mini sized dress!

kids clothes week-grey fleece sweater

I love how this sweater turned out! I wish I'd lined it in cotton though, instead of more fleece, it's a bit stiff in the arms. (Christmas Story style)

Anyways-it was fun to sew-and pretty easy to put together. I used this pattern.

Another piece for the Sadester's fall/winter wardrobe!

kids clothes week-magenta knit shirt

It's official. She's mastered the snooty ignore-the-camera model look. Which I still think is adorable, but I'm biased.

sheesh, this color is kinda hurting my eyes on the screen. I promise it's not that red/bright in real life. More pink/magenta-but whatever! Here's one of my attempts to build up Sadie's fall/winter wardrobe. As of now she has....one long(er) sleeved shirt.

This one.

I only had a little strip of extra fabric-so I made this squiggly (that's a word!) design on the front.

Didja notice the little size label? cool, huh? I got them from this Etsy seller.

This shirt should probably should be a 24 mo or 2T, oh well. I'll change it someday never.

Some cute cuffs finish off the 3/4 length sleeves.

I just pinned it on where it looked good, and sewed down the middle, zigging and zagging with the material. I like it!

child's gathered apron tutorial

Today I'm excited to be a part of Sew Chic and Unique's "Inspire to Create" series! There have been some fantastic projects so far-be sure to go and check them out!

I chose to make a cute little apron for the Sadester. To match her tablecloth and oven mitts of course!

Sadie just loves playing with her play kitchen-and also in the real kitchen. Cookies are her favorite thing to make-of course! Sugar! yah!

So, I thought I'd make her a little apron to help play the part, and stay "clean". (since she already outgrew the one I made eons ago)

It has an adorable gathered waist and bias trim around the edges. (add a pocket if you'd like!)

kids clothes week-teal bow top and corduroy skirt

I never thought I could love a shirt this much-but it is possible. ;)

I made it from another tee shirt-of course I didn't take a before picture. (because the power went out and I cut it out by flashlight. No power-so I thought I'd at least cut something out. What can I say-I'm a die hard) Just imagine a boxy, little boy shirt and you'll get the picture.

I made a pattern from one of Sadie's shirts that fits well-tee shirts are really easy once you get a few under your belt. I'm not entirely comfortable with knits yet-but I'm getting there. Definitely use a ball point needle with them. This is the tutorial I used to learn how to construct shirts. I used the existing hem and sleeves so I didn't have to hem it-hooray!

I added the big bow to girly it up! LOVE this.

I paired it with a little corduroy fall skirt for Sadie-made from a remnant found at Joann's-for about $1, I love sewing with remnants! It will be a sad, sad day when Sadie gets too big for remnant clothing. ;) But hey-then it's Charlotte's turn!

It was such a simple skirt-but so cute!

So this entire outfit cost about $2. I thrifted the tee shirt for $1 and the material was $1. Gotta love thrifty sewing! That looks like a million bucks. Or so.

****and wow! I'm getting SOO close to 1,000 followers! That just about blows my mind. I want to do a cool giveaway...but I'm drawing a blank. hmmm....I'll get back to you guys on that.

Edit: Scratch that. I've got some COOL stuff lined up for you guys!!

kids clothes week-warm PJ's

It's been getting a bit chillier at night here (granted, it's still Cali, but anyways....), so Sadie's summer PJ's are no longer in season.

Hence...winter PJ's! It's not rocket science, but I digress.

PJ's can get so expensive! I love making them, they're a quick project (especially since my new baby serger came to live with us) and fun to embellish tees to match.

I give you...

....Ruffle Dots!

.....Houndstooth Princess, complete with crown, ruffle and sparkly gem!

...and Argyle Girl! With a matching S. ( I figure Charlotte can still wear these when the time comes, I'll just make a new top for her)

Joann's was having a sale-the patterned flannel was $3 a yard. I only used about 3/4 yard for each of these, and the tees were $2.50 (Wal-mart-on sale), so they came out to be pretty inexpensive (and custom) PJ's, at under $5 each. I thought about letting Sadie pick out the flannel-but she was headed towards the ugly section so I vetoed that idea. ;) anyone else do that?

She loves them!

She had to show me the booty-er-back. I love a cute toddler booty in PJ's!

Where's the S for Sadie?

For those who asked-I made my own pattern using a pair of her PJ pants that fit well-then followed the steps here:

Cuffed shorts tutorial

They're made exactly the same-just longer!
