shakers

Sorry about the bad photos and scowling Sadie...but oh well! Pictures can't always be happy and pretty. We made this little shaker craft last Friday with Rayne and Cassy.

You just decorate a paper plate, tape streamers to the edge on one side, fold it in half, fill with beans or rice or something noisy, and staple shut.

BAM! Wha-la! Kazow!

moving on...anyways...you get a little shaker toy!

Sadie wasn't so sure about it at first, but she warmed up later and really likes shaking it. and peeling off the stickers. Which is how I found a balloon sticker on her bum. hmmm.

summery top

Another tank top...are you sick of them yet? A little tunic top...a tad wide in the shoulders...next one I make will have to be a bit slimmer. I know, this girl has a ton of clothes, I just have a bunch of fabric that I want to use, so oh well! (Plus, I'm a bit addicted, if you haven't noticed) I love the little pockets. (Sadie filled them with buttons)

Our little photo shoot took place inside, because of rain. Rain, Rain, go away! I want spring and sunshine!

A little mid-shoot meltdown...(apparently sticking your tummy out accentuates your tantrum and helps get your point across)

...Luckily she was easily distracted by her hammering toy. There's a reason why that thing is so dinged up, even though she just got it last Christmas. She's got lousy aim. Sorry, Sadie, but you do.

Also easily distracted by her BBFF (Best Boy Friend Forever), Gage, who stopped over for a visit. They had fun looking at this cute picture book...Gage impressed Sadie by knowing all the vehicles. Sadie did not impress him with her knowledge of "boat" and "car". She's definitely not into vehicles. ;D

nature bracelets

Got masking tape?
A sidewalk nearby?
With leaves or flowers on the ground?

Then you too, can make super cool nature bracelets like Sadie and I did the other day. I don't remember where I first saw this idea, but luckily it popped into my head the other day when I was trying to think of something to do. It was a gorgeous morning, so I didn't want to stay indoors. You just wrap some masking tape (loosely) around your child's wrist (I did one too), sticky side out.

Then put on your coolest shades, throw your hair in a sloppy ponytail, and go for a walk! We found flowers, leaves, small rocks...insects...(just kidding on that one)...and stuck them to our "bracelets", for a fun little activity.

Just make sure not to pick your neighbor's flowers...they probably wouldn't appreciate that too much, even if your kid is cute.

Here's mine...kinda sparse, Sadie's was jam-packed with flowers, leaves, grass, sand, and a little pebble. She kept saying "petty baylet". It was too cute!

....and just cause she's cute...here's a picture of her swinging to her heart's content. :D

CSN Stores-upcoming review!

So...if you haven't heard of CSN Stores by now, then you've been missing out! I know I have. They have an tons of products available, and over 200 different stores, where you're BOUND to find what you're looking for. They have everything from kid's toys (which is admittedly where I spent most of my time surfing...I can't help it...I love toys more than the Sadester does!), shoes, entertainment centers, sandboxes, play kitchens, furniture, BBQ's (we need one of those!), home decor...you name it, they've got it.

Seriously, I spent soo much time on their sites looking at all the great stuff they have...Watch for an upcoming review I will be doing for them in the near future. I had such a tough time deciding what I wanted to review, but I can't wait to share it with you. ;)

getting ready

We are in the home stretch for baby #2! A little more than 8 weeks and counting. Rory is good about reminding me to get things ready...like buying newborn diapers (oh my gosh...are they REALLY that tiny? I'd forgotten), washing and sorting the 0-3 month clothes, etc....

I'm more about the crafting! lol. Like these big sis/lil' sis shirts I made for the girls to wear. (with a freezer paper stencil) I also made some matching yo yo clips, of course! Baby's will go on a headband...another thing on my (loong) list of things to make before she gets here!

Oh, and we moved Sadie into her big girl room. She's still in her crib (we're not ready for THAT change yet), so we'll see how that goes. She did good last night, so I think it went ok! (so far)

...Sadie is busy playing with her little people family. Left to right, that's Rory (Daddy), Jess (Mommy), Sadie (Dadie), and Baby Sister (Ditter).

***By the way, she picked these out from her Little People collection and named them all herself. She's one smart little cookie! She makes me smile. :D (sorry that you're the bald one, Rory)

wall hanging

Another birthday present! This time for my sister Joanna. She's away at college, so I didn't want to give her anything useless, or that would take up a lot of space. Well, at least this doesn't take up a lot of space. ;) Hope she likes it. (edit: she did)

I saw this print a long time ago at the Feed Your Soul website, and thought it would be perfect for her! She looves her books, and is majoring in English. I've used this awesome site for other prints around my house, they're adorable, and best of all-free!

I used this tutorial for the frame, easy peasy! Left off the magnets, and glued a piece of cute scrapbook paper to the back to cover up the messy stuff.

Pretty easy and fun, and before you think I'm super cheap (frugal!), don't worry...I added a Barnes and Noble gift card and her favorite candy bar to the gift bag. ;)

P.S. I was super excited to hear I won this giveaway! Crafterhours is such a fun blog and has some GREAT ideas.

winner :D

So, I know I said I'd do this drawing yesterday...please forgive me. I went camping Friday night with my family and came home soo sore and tired, so blogging has been the last thing on my mind! (sleeping/napping, on the other hand...) Sadie ended up sharing our air mattress, so Rory and I were a bit squished. and I forgot my pillow. You know, the huge pregnancy pillow. Oh well, at least it doesn't smell like smoke now.

So, anyways! The winner is Nikki! lol! I just won a giveaway on her blog a few weeks ago. I swear, it's not fixed. ;) Email me your address Nikki, and I'll send these out soon!

currently...

...glad that, at this age, buttons are a girl's best friend, not diamonds. Thank goodness...they're much cheaper.

...happy to have my sister back for the weekend at least. She's been away at BYU for 4 months...and we miss her!

...grateful Rory understands about raging pregnancy hormones. (we'll just leave it at that)

...obsessing over Sadie's dress up collection. Even though she doesn't care for the dresses much...mostly the accessories. I want to make a Cinderella dress next! maybe she'd get excited for that.

...can't believe April is almost over...where did it go?

...now has 9 weeks left til baby girl #2 comes! (unless she's late like her sister, and then 11 weeks to go. I don't like that number as much)

...debating names...we have two front runners, but will wait til she's born to decide.

...wondering if I'll have ANY crafting/spare time with two kids!?

little shelves

Rory helped me make these shelves last weekend. (ok, I held them while he screwed them together and painted them....he did the rest) Thank hun! They're in the Sadester's big girl room, and I love how they turned out! I got the idea here. Check out that post for more details of how they're made.

We followed the tutorial, but used screws instead of nails for extra support. Then I painted them to match Sadie's dresser, and wha-la! cute book shelves. The wood cost about $20. Not bad eh?

The shelves are nice because she can see the front of all the books. She can also see/REACH the books, which leads to all the books on the floor. oh well. You can't win them all.

yo-yo clip tutorial

Have a plethora of yo-yo's around? No? Well, get to making some so you can make these cute clips for yourself...or your daughter...or your mom for mother's day....or your dog.....

Anyways, I really did have a bunch laying around that I made like, 2 1/2 years ago on a trip to Hawaii, with no plan in mind. (I was 5 weeks pregnant, but I don't know if that was why I made so many...maybe I was nesting REALLY early)

one awesome blogger

I just wanted to show you all this super DUPER cute dress my bloggy friend Nikki from Nature's Heirloom made for her daughter, using my easy breezy tank tutorial. Isn't it adorable!?

And if you're in the market for a fun, fresh blog to check out, hers is it!

Check out this super cute Easter skirt she made! I am IN LOVE with that pom pom fringe!

and she recovered this little lawn chair! I need me a kid-sized lawn chair. Like, yesterday.

Be sure to check out her Cherry Blossom Branch Tutorial! perfectly springy. (and easy!)

and check. out. this awesome felt...MONEY! Who would've thought of that? Nikki, that's who.

oh, and THEN she goes and copies a felt pie idea I tried out...and totally shows me up! I mean, look at those awesome pies. My little pie is so sad-looking compared to hers. If I weren't the forgiving type....lol, jk.

She is also the queen of awesome thrift store finds, and subsequent makeovers. But you'll have to go take a peek for that! ;)

So go check her blog out, I just love it and hope you all say hello! She's the nicest person. I mean it!

Ninny Mouw

Sadie has had quite the love affair with Minnie Mouse (aka Ninny Mouw) so far in her short little life.

She had a Minnie Mouse first birthday party, four trips to Disneyland within a year (twice where she got to meet Minnie), carries around her stuffed Minnie almost everywhere she goes (including her high chair for breakfast, baths, the store, etc), and sings the hot dog song from the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse show constantly. (that last one is pretty cute, actually)

So it was only fitting that I make her a Minnie Mouse dress up dress. "Only fitting" meaning I really really wanted to make her one...and luckily she was excited when she saw it! She even gets excited when she sees the leftover polka dot fabric in my craft room. She carries it around with her. huh. I wonder if she likes that more than her dress....anyways...

I used a basic pattern I had, adjusting it a little bit, and added a strip of velcro on the back for easy on and off. It's a bit big on her now, but that's fine with me, the longer she can wear it, the better!

I also just HAD to make these cute little felt gloves...I got the idea from this blog. So fun, huh? Sadie loves them and they were really quick to make!

Question: Why do the Disney characters have only four fingers? It's creepy.

So here's the best picture from our "photo shoot". She does like the dress, trust me...

...it's just that lately when Momma heads towards her with her camera in one hand and outfit in the other, it's usually followed by a clothing change (bad enough)...and this commentary from Momma-

"Smile, Sadie! Stand right here! Look at me! Hey, Sadie! Stop picking your nose and look at Mommy, please?!"

Can you blame her for being a little wary of me and my camera?

90 minute shirt

I finally tried Dana from Made's 90 minute shirt tutorial this past weekend. Getting the pattern made was the hardest part...this brown one is the third attempt, which is why it's brown. I ran out of cuter knit colors. ;)

I still think it's pretty charming, especially with the little flower applique I added to "girly' it up a bit. I was able to make two shirts during nap time (2 hours) so it was quicker than 90 minutes, and this third one went even faster! (sorry about her out of focus face...she had just woken up and I was trying to snap a few before she ran away from me to play) The best part? It fits over her head super easy. She has a huge noggin and sometimes it's hard to get shirts over her head without her getting upset. (a current problem...) So these are nice, cry-free shirts.

Still needs a little tweaking. Like, making the neck not so wide that it falls off her shoulder like a 80's movie character.

p.s. Her hair looks SOO red in these pictures! love it.

we've been busy...

...at play dates...said goodbye to some fun girls who moved...we'll miss them!

...smearing our faces with chocolate. (ok, that was just Sadie)

...running errands in style with Momma.

...making (ok, eating) fruit loop necklaces with Rayne.

...and having a picnic at the park, with dads in tow!

...isn't spring great! What have you been up to?

jusy pinky

Outfit number two! I kinda love the shorts on this outfit a lot. They're made from an old pair my sister Julia donated to the Sadie refashion cause. so they cost Free Firty Free. har har.

I made the shirt from a remnant from Joann's...the material is kinda stiff so it didn't work the best for this type of shirt...but still cute. ;) which, is what really matters right? uh...anyways.

I made the straps and yo yo's from leftover material from the shorts. They got CUT UP....barely anything besides the original waistband survived. Poor shorts. They went on to a better purpose.

I added some little pockets on the side. I cut my short pieces on the existing hem...so no hemming! Gotta love that.

baby gift

My cousin's wife Courtenay is having a baby boy, right around the time I am! (Like, our due dates are within a week of each other) She also happens to be my sister in law Stephanie's sister. Yep, the sisters married cousins. She actually introduced my brother and Steph. ;)

I don't often (ok, never, pretty much) look at boy fabric at the fabric store, (no reason to yet...) but Cassy and I found this monster fabric at Joann's awhile ago and thought it was adorable! I had to get me a piece of the monster cuteness. So a bib, and some soft baby blocks were made of that...

....then I was trying to figure out a cute onesie idea to go along with the set. I thought of doing some kind of monster...but then saw this "ga ga" idea on etsy and had to make one like it!

I made it with some white fabric fused and sewn onto the onesie, and then used a freezer paper stencil to do the letters. Ca-ute! Hope she likes it!

On a pregnancy note: I am now 30 weeks along! ahhhhh!!! It's all downhill from here. Puffy feet and hands...here I come!

Gotta love a tank that took me about 1/2 hour to finish...yah! and pretty cute to boot.

yellow and navy

Yellow and navy make for quite a cute color combo, I think! I made Sadie this little summer outfit the other day during her daily dive into oblivion. (aka the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse)

It's a really easy top and shorts and fun to make...as you'll see when I show off outfit number two later...I got the fabric from a fun pillowcase I thrifted a few months ago.

She tries soo hard to blow off the dandelion thingies...then when she can't she gets frustrated and just shakes them off. lol! That's my girl.

I'll put up a tutorial if anyone would like, for the shirt, sometime soon!

a wee gift

More gifts...get ready cause there are more coming.... :)

Here's a cute gift idea for a toddler...a mini backpack! Sadie has one, and loves stuffing it full of her toys and books and....binkies she tries to get past me. ha! nice try Sadester. Binkies are for nap time and bedtime only! (I don't really want to think of the day when we have to get rid of them)

I made this one for her little friend Tabitha, who recently turned one! Also made some clippies to match...cause...ya gotta coordinate with your backpack...didn't you know?

It's such a quick project, literally start to finish in about an hour probably. Definitely a nap time project! Got the how to here.

Had to add a set of felt chocolate chip/sugar cookies for the birthday girl's kitchen!

pillow love

You've probably seen the scrappy flower pillow from Anthropologie floating around the web, right? Anyways, if you haven't, mine looks exactly like it. har har. Well, it was a lot cheaper anyways. I hear the original pillow was like $88! YoWzAS!

I made this one for my sister Janae's birthday. She's quite a vivacious girl, loves her color, and the only request I'd been able to get out of her for her present was... "a pillow?"

So this is what she got!

I got the idea here, and used the idea to run with it until I got this. (I kind of love it) I REALLY REALLY tried to be random with my scraps...didn't try to keep them in a color range or anything, like I usually do.

It's a great project for using up scraps. I did a simple back, just an envelope style...used the trick shown here by Jill for great-fitting corners.

I was planning to sew down the petals...but I forgot/got lazy/am pregnant and will use that as an excuse for just about anything.

;)
