Far, Far Away week-felt crown tutorial

Sadie loves dress up lately. Like, won’t wear anything else-loves.
So I thought I’d add a(nother) crown to her dress up stash.
Also, this so handily fits in with the Far, Far Away theme of this week on Punkin Patterns that I was asked to guest post for! 😉
It’s simple and oh so easy to embellish!
Join in the crown-making fun, won’t you?

You’ll need:
felt (I use a wool blend)
trim
elastic
glue gun or fabric glue
medium to heavy interfacing
sparkles, sequins, spangles-whatever other embellishments you may want to use
simple crown pattern-it’s easy to draw out your own!
Sewing stuff
So, first cut out two of your crown pieces, and then also two pieces of interfacing, but trim those down around the edges about 1/8″.

Using the directions, iron the interfacing on your felt pieces. (this might melt acrylic/craft felts-I’m not sure though)
Now, cut out flowers from your scraps of felt-and lay out your trim. Or in other words-add what embellishments you’d like!
Sew on trim to one piece, tucking the ends under. Wider stitches make it easier to sew trims on.
Next, measure how much elastic you’ll need. (from temple to temple on your child)
Sandwich the elastic near the bottom of the crown, and pin it together, right sides facing out.
Sew around the whole thing, with about an 1/8″ seam.
Glue on your flowers, sparkles, and other embellishments, and you’re done.

Now your princess is ready to dress up in style!

Thanks Vanessa, for hosting this fun fairy-tale week!

  1. Charming. We’re going through a dress-up/pretend play phase here, too. Early yesterday afternoon I went around the house picking up and found 2 tutus, butterfly wings, binoculars, a cowboy hat, and bunny ears, all of which Ginny had worn at some point during the morning.

  2. How cute! I should really get making some of my own for my girls! They will go crazy for them! They love to dress up as well! Thanks for the inspiration and tutorial!
