sadie’s flower girl dress

My goodness. gracious. great balls of fire. I almost gave up on this dress after making the practice dress. It was a bit frustrating. I’m glad I didn’t, the second go around was much better. witness below.

I know being prideful is bad, but I am pretty proud of this dress. HAPPY. happy with this dress. My mom always said to say that instead of proud. (see mom? I remember stuff)
things I learned:
1. to trust my sewing instincts. My mom came up with the first way of doing it (one piece for the skirt), which was a completely valid way, but I ended up doing it the way I’d first thought. (separate panels) Thanks for talking me out of quitting the help and advice mom!
2. to not be afraid of “fancy fabrics”. this satin was a dream to work with! I loove the shimmer too.
3. to save my hemming scraps. I made the sash and flower from the extra fabric after hemming my bridesmaid dress. I was able to match the bridesmaids dresses perfectly, and for free!
4. that making your own patterns aren’t that hard. I’m proud HAPPY to say I made my own pattern for this dress!
5. that I might possibly be in love with my serger.
The fabric and buttons ended up total about $15. (I had a 50% coupon at Joann’s) I made little sister a dress too from the scraps, so, two dresses for $15! Say it with me….sah-weet! It closes in the back with three sweet little buttons. (also 50% off)
I made the flower by hand sewing along the edge of a long strip of fabric, gathering it, and then gluing it onto a piece of felt, which I then sewed/glued onto the sash. I covered one of those metal button (from the kit you can get at Joann’s) with the same fabric, then glued it on.
How’s about one more picture cause I say so it’s so purty….Sadie loves it, she didn’t want to take it off when I tried it on her the other day. Twirling and spinning…what a girly girl! You’ll have to wait til after the wedding to see the Sadester in it. Don’t want it to get dirty. I’m kind of scared she’ll ruin it. ;]

Post Edit: here’s Charlotte’s little dress! Sorry the picture isn’t that great. πŸ™‚
