fabric green beans tutorial

ready to make it fun to play with your veggies?! then make these super cute fabric green beans for your favorite little chef…don’t forget the little pat of butter!

Click below for more details!

you’ll need:

several pieces of dark green flannel or felt, cut into 4×3 inch pieces
matching thread
sewing machine
hand sewing needle
stuffing

here are your pieces-4×3 inches…of course you can make them smaller, or larger if you like!

fold them in half, and starting at one end, on the fold, stitch in a sort of half circle (back stitch at start and finish), stopping in the middle to leave a space for turning.

can you see the inch or so i left open for turning? look REEElly hard.

now, trim close to your seam, leaving enough at your gap to be able to slip stitch it closed later.

turn right side out, using a chopstick or turning tool to get the little nooks at the end all sorted out.

now carefully and patiently…(hah!)…stuff your little green bean. the great thing is, it doesn’t have to be perfect. lumps are good! it makes it look more lifelike. at least, that’s my story, and i’m sticking to it!

now, still using your matching thread, slip stitch the opening closed! repeat with all the rest of your squares…or do one step at a time, assembly line style.

then, serve! (ok, ok, don’t really try and eat them.)

so fun!

hope you liked the tutorial, and as usual, let me know if you have any questions!

***If you have used any of my tutorials, I’d love if you’d add a quick pic to my flicker group! Thanks!***

  2. Cute! I’ve been going crazy with the fabric food. I made some snap peas that look simular, but I did a circle, folded it in half, and put three wooden beads in the middle, and hot glued it together. Love all the fabric food you make!

  3. Adorable. And now, because I do not speak the language of a seamstress, what is a slip stitch?

  4. here’s a good little “tutorial” with some pics:

  9. I love your felt food! I’m hosting a Felt Food Round-Up at OneCreativeMommy.com Friday, May 18th. I’d love it for you to link something up!
