scrub a dub washcloth and bias tape tutorial

so this is like two tutorials in one. wowzas! the first part is the bias tape, and then comes the washcloth. fun stuff. here we go!

Click below for more!

first off, here is a picture showing what the bias is…basically diagonally across your fabric. (sorry if you knew that, but i didn’t for a loong time) you’ll want to cut strips in whatever width you would like from your fabric. a big quilting ruler and rotary cutter helps, but i’ve done it with scissors and a plastic ruler too.

here are your two strips.

place one strip face up, and the other face down (aww they’re kissing)

make sure they are lined up with something straight (a line?)…not like mine. anyways, you want them to be like this. (i’m bad at explaining this) it makes more sense in the next picture.

take a ruler and draw a line from corner to corner like so.

sew on the line.

trim down edges (sorry for blurry pic)

trim off overflap edges. (yes, technical term) now, tada! you’re done with your bias tape!

the rest of the tutorial is for the washcloths, but it’s handy if you want to see how bias tape gets put on, so you should look at the rest. because i said so.

i cut my terry cloth into 9 inch squares,

rounded off the edges…and..

starting in the middleish of one side, pin bias tape along the edges, right side down. continue around, the corners won’t give you any trouble. the beauty of bias tape!

when you get to the end (start?) pin your two pieces together as close to the terry cloth as you can..
sew along the pin,
finger press open, and pin as well.

it should look like this now…

now flip it over

and tuck the tape over once,

and once more, then pin. repeat all around.

see? cutting it on the bias makes it hug the curves ohh so nicely!

sew around…and then tada! you’re finished. let me know if you have any questions!

and now, lather. rinse. repeat.

haha. couldn’t resist.

this tutorial was featured on craft gossip!

p.s. i’ve had a lot of questions about how i got my blog titles in that oh so cute font. well, i made it up.

hah. just kidding.

i used this tutorial, and if i can do it, so can you!

***If you have used any of my tutorials, I’d love if you’d add a quick pic to my flicker group! Thanks!***
