cute dishtowels! why thank you.

here’s an easy and quick project! it took me literally 15 minutes, including taking the pictures. they are cute dishtowels to wipe your hands on, and an awesome way to keep them put.

keep reading for more on that…first off, you ll need:

ย

Click below for more details!

dishtowels
1 strip per towel of fabric. mine were 16 inches wide, so i cut my strips 17 inches by 4 inches.

whoa. that’s the whole list. see? easy.

lay fabric down wrong side up, and with your iron, press the edges in about 1/2 inch. like so.

flip over, center, wiggle if you messed up or went crooked a little..(i always do), pin, and…

sew! the obligatory sewing shot.

and that’s it! they’d make great hostess gifts, or part of a present, you know, with some other kitcheny thingybobs. they’d be super cute with some patchwork strips…i’ll have to try that next time.

now for the awesome trick. have a little one who likes to pull towels off the towel bar? or an un-trained hubby, for that matter?

add some snaps to your towel, and you’ll be in business. they won’t budge.

just make sure to hang your towel on the bar, and mark with a dissapearing marker where to put the snaps.

don’t just eyeball it and almost mess up your new towels (not like i would know anything about that)

oh, and welcome to all the new readers! i am just so excited to have you!

***If you have used any of my tutorials, I’d love if you’d add a quick pic to my flicker group! Thanks!***

  1. Where did you find plain white towels?? I’ve been looking everywhere so that I could do this!

    • I bought white dishtowels from Williams Sonoma (all purpose kitchen towels/set of four) and made Christmas towels like this. The quality was fantastic. One friend I made it for used it all year long, and even after multiple washes the towels looked great. I also bought Martha Stewart ones at Macy’s, but the weave snagged so very easily that I took them back before I even sewed the fabric on.

  2. i love the addition of the snaps!! it always annoys me when my dish towel falls on the floor but it never occurred to me to secure it. i will now. thanks!

  3. snaps… genious.

  4. These are too cute! I read your comment that you left for me and can not believe that you read my entire archive! THANK YOU!!!! I love your blog and would like to email you something if I may…I just cant seem to find an email address… Help, please… Thank you.

  5. Great idea once again!!!! Love your border fabric!

  6. The snaps are such a good idea!! Mine are always being pulled down by little hands ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. Those are so cute!

  8. Hi…I just hopped over from Just A Girl… I love all your tutorials!! Can’t wait to make the dish towels!! SO cute:)

  9. Adorable – you can really use them for different seasons or if you’re like me and change your mind all the time.

  10. Lovely. I’m going to try it. The snaps are a great idea, we have a toddler that likes to pull it off all the time.

  11. I love, love LOVE th snaps idea! I too have little ones that pull them off constantly! Thanks for such a great tip!

  13. This is great! (Reading through your tutorials) I always complain I can’t find cute enough dishtowels, why it never occurred to me to make my own, who knows?! Adding towels and cute fabric to my shopping list for the next trip “to town” (45 minutes away!). Thank you!!

  14. Love this! and omg, sooo luv the snaps! Awesome ideas ๐Ÿ™‚

  15. This is a great tutorial–those are so cute! Ive been pondering making some kitchen towels for a while now, and your simple tutorial might have actually pushed me over the edge into *doing* it. ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks! The snap idea is exceedingly clever. I can never figure out how mine end up on the floor halfway across the kitchen. I’m convinced the other people around here dry their hands and then throw the towels. That’s the only possible explaination. ๐Ÿ™‚

  16. Found this just in time for Christmas! I’m a beginner at sewing, but I *think* I can do this thanks to your great tutorial! Thanks for sharing. =)

  17. Any ideas on where to get nice white towels that won’t be too pricey? I was thinking of making these for Christmas gifts too!! Love it!

  18. Hi, I know you posted this a long time ago, but I’m also interested in the towel material you used. Do you have any suggestions for inexpensive options? These are perfect! my email address is [email protected] if it doesn’t show up.

  19. Where did you find your dish towel? I have looked everywhere and I can’t find any that are plain white. Please let me know. My email is [email protected] Thank you

  20. I buy flour sack dish towels in a pack of 5 (I think) at WalMart. They are inexpensive. I cut them in half…they are very wide…hem the raw sides, and then add the fabric trim the same way you explained. So you end up with 10 towels from one pack. Flour sack cotton dries very fast and is lint free, great for drying glasses.

I just bought a metre of the waffle fabric at Fabricland . $16.00 per metre. I think one metre will make three large towels?

  22. Very cute! Love the idea of adding snaps =)

  23. Both the decorative fabric & the snaps are good ideas but I am going to sew the decorative fabric to the top of the towel & use that to fold over for hanging. This way you have more towel area for drying with.

  24. I too have been looking all over the place for “plain” white towels. The best that I can do is white with a small color band on the bottom. Where did you get yours from. Love this idea and ready to start making them for gifts if I can find the towels at a reasonable price.

  25. A good source for the towels would be a God-send. Does anyone know where one may be found?! If you do, please share with us.

  26. So cute love this tutorial. I have a 4 pack of white towels. Didn’t want to use them. I even though about saving them for the holidays. But now I’m going to look for some theme Thanksgiving material and defiantly have fun doing this project and I just have to add the snaps what a great idea. Thank you.
